RMK raises a valid point. Speakers you don't see but sound amazing, speakers which do not take over one's room because of aesthetics or sheer size. Why the Bose Acoustimass lured many followers 20-25 years ago....tiny speakers with a sub that sounded very BIG. (never mind the frequency response voids)

Begs the inquiry, just why do you purchase speakers? because they simply look good.........or sound pleasing?
I vote for "sound pleasing" myself.

And FWIW, neither wife nor I consider having a separate room for Home Theater purposes to be a good idea, but that's a personal choice and if anyone wants to do otherwise, a tip of the hat in their direction.

If I might, I vote for both and yes, I expect to pay a premium to get both in the same cabinet; looks and brains. When the lights are up, you bet it matters and when the lights go down, what the speakers have to say matters equally as well. Looks and brains, looks and brains; never sell either short.

I think that having beautiful speakers and subs is a huge plus. For me personally, i don't want to spend thousands of dollars on speakers/Subs and not see them or have them hidden. I want to hear them sound amazing and see them as well. Granted sometimes the best sounding speakers don't look the best and vice versa, but it is what it is.

To me, there comes a point in someones budget that stepping up to a better sounding speaker/sub doesn't make a big enough difference. Not an audible one. At that point, you go for the best looking. Or at least i would.

I don't know. To me Aesthetics, although not as important as sound, still plays a big part on my speaker/sub selection. I want them to sound fantastic and look fantastic. Everyone has their own opinions.

Now let's get back to the task at hand and start posting up more pics of beautiful subs. smile.gif

All kidding aside, being that humans are geared towards visually produced emotional responses, it clearly makes a difference when choosing a sexual partners. There's no reason speakers or subwoofers should not be seen in the same light as that of being sexy. Not saying I want to have sex with an 18" subwoofer but yes, having a pair of good looking subwoofers which match the beautiful floor-standing speakers we have, matters to both my wife and I.

I like the high tech look of the Fathoms, Velo DD+, and the high end RELs.

I have to tell you that I don't look at ANY subwoofer and find it sexy. Not even the Funk 18.3 I posted. A beautifully finished cabinet yes, sexy no.

Clearly guys like you don't buy JTR speakers......too much performance, not enough looks. Whatever works for ya.

Then I guess I don't know what the meaning of "sexy" is.

I always thought the Tannoy TD Sub and Talon Thunderbird were some of the best looking.

The best looking sub is the one that can be hidden in the room with absolutely no indication of its function.

Failing that, my favorites are the old M-Design Eleganza line, the Bella (Aurasound NS12-794-4A underhung neo motor woofer, 500W Class G amp).

eleganzam-1308866625-811.jpg

and Godfather (Aurasound NS15-992-4A underhung neo motor woofer, 1kW Class G amp):

Here are my three (two Bellas and one Godfather), prior to setup, as part of a big mess of audio crap:

Moving+-+Equipment+Stack+1.JPG

That said, I'm shortly to dismember the Bellas and use the Aurasound woofers for flanking sub/stands under my new mains. (The Aurasound woofers have few, if any, peers. They're simply spectacular.) The cherry, alas, doesn't go well with our other furnishings.

Why? Some of the subs pictured in this thread are such wonderful works of art in their own right that it would be a crime to hide them away

I'm of the belief that all audio gear is best heard (or heard/felt in case of subwoofers) and not seen.

I'm of the belief that all audio gear is best heard (or heard/felt in case of subwoofers) and not seen.

Then that just becomes an issue of an aesthetically pleasing room, which isn't as easy to achieve for some that can't hide the speakers/subs behind screens or in walls, etc. So lets see those Velodyne, KEL etc pics of their best offerings....
