Hello everyone. I am in desperate need of some help. Today I was fidling around with my TV antenna trying to get a better signal and knocked into my subwoofer a little where the RCA line inputs go from subwoofer to receiver. Subwoofer is old velodyne VA 1012, receiver Onkyo TX-SR 605. I am currently residing in an old apartment. I am using a Monster surge protector, nothing special $30 variety. I have now tried 3 different coax cables, while plugged into power there is no buzz, upon plugging in my RCAS, immediate buzzing, even if not hooked up into any other device. Tried a secondary HTIB infinity hts-20sub, same result, tried other outlets, same result. Tried incorporating cheater plug same result. I tightened the back of the velodyne back plate so the RCAs are taught when plugged in, they were a little loose because I had a friend who replaced a bad resistor, but have had zero problems before today. Even if everything is unplugged from HT, and am either going straight to wall or power strip the buzzing persists on Both subwoofers. Please help!
Several individuals in this forum have had a problem after moving equipment that had rca cables plugged in during the move. The extra torque from the rca cable when bumped in just the right manner can cause the solder that holds the rca connector inside the sub (or insider the AVR) to pull loose. In some situations, they were able to do a repair by removing the solder and putting in new solder. You can sometimes check if the broken solder is the problem by wiggling the rca cable where it goes into the subwoofer. If the sound goes in and out, then broken solder is the likely explanation.
"while plugged into power there is no buzz, upon plugging in my RCAS, immediate buzzing, even if not hooked up into any other device" This seems like something failed in the subwoofer amplifier.
If having tried a fresh RCA subwoofer cable and a broken solder joint is the problem, as a suggestion, change to the opposite RCA input or connect a speaker hookup to the sub. If the sub is good, the sub will light up. If the sub is bad, the sub will just sit there and hummmmmmmmmmm...........or buzz or do anything but what it's suppose to do.
