Seriously, in my opinion, two won't do the trick. I will say, the room did come alive with the addition of the third RW-12d but I find myself wanting a boatload more as it's loud but despite being flat, there's only a little bit of "impact" bass.

I also find myself wanting to add an outboard amplifier like an Emotiva, XPA-5.

How much would a pair of "DiY Horn Loaded HT Tuba" subwoofers run you?

So get it already and let us know how it works out (hopefully, your room null won't return).

As I've posted, our 401(k) ship is stuck outside the harbor and we're waiting for an incoming tide that will raise all ships. In the meantime we've taken care of all the other financial demands in our lives from the house, to other hobbies to the wonders of automobile maintenance. I promised the wife I wouldn't upgrade the subwoofer system until the 401(k) ship docked and the spring lines were secured.

A few weeks backs, we dropped the price of a XS30 on a new hobby, metal detecting. Before that, it's was the price of a XS30 on auto detailing gear and a new single bowl fiber kitchen sink/faucet combination. And in the last few days, we dropped the price of another XS30 on preventive maintenance for two of our three vehicles. By the time we're able to upgrade our subwoofer system, that null will be afraid to show itself.

(well, that's the story I'm going with)

I'm a consumer of subwoofers. For that price, for your DIY effort, you'll be far and away from what I could order up online.

In the middle of the California mountains? Well, maybe you'll start a new gold rush.

You'll sell the Klipsches, right?

Now I REALLY wouldn't want to be your UPS guy.

We're smack in the middle of ground zero as to California's gold country but it's not about the gold, it's about getting away from the computer and out of the house for a couple of hours. Haven't figured what to do with the subs as I don't sell anything. Usually, I give things to, neighbors, a friend or the local hospice resale store and hope they can use the money to help someone else.

I'm wondering if a false corner & a curtain or room divider would help either of us?

Nope. It's all gotta be the real deal or to a bass wave, you've got nothing.

I've gone over to the "Dark Side." When we're able, I've decided it would be nice to buy a pair of XS30's and, if the room measurements demand, a third or forth smaller subwoofer like a Rythmik, E15 to help smooth out room modes.

Starting with the first XS30, what we finalize on will be dependent on REW room measurements.

In my case room divider could fill in a door opening & be pretty solid, the false corner would have to be plywood & pretty solid, floor to ceiling.

Forum experts will have to weigh in as my understanding, it's either solid construction or the bass waves are like neutrinos and will pass right through your walls.

Well to update on my newegg situation, they got the bad sub back and confirmed it is bad. However, since its backordered they couldn't replace it. Kind of annoying.

I don't want to pay double for an LV12R but I also don't want to wait for a sub that might not materialize.

What do you guys think on 2 RW-12D vs one Rythmik LV12R?

I know the Rythmik will reach lower but 2 subs should have more output for a room the size of mine.

That will depend on your room size. I have dual RW-12Ds, now I want a DIY 18" sub. Wife won't let me get one unless I sell my duals first. It's hard to sell audio stuff in the Central Valley CA. I'm selling both for $450. I've had several interested but no bite. One wanted to buy only one, which I thought about, but then the wife said I might be stuck with one sub rather than two.

The room is 12 x 21 x 9 and has a small hallway opening. So 2300 cubic feet approximately.

This is only local pick up. I don't have the boxes, and would cost too much to ship.

My room is open to kitchen & hallway going to formal living room & two bed rooms & a study wink.gif

I know one is not going to be enough. But I have start with one & then I will buy another later. This sub (XW-500D) goes to 21Hz when you see it at Klipsch website.

Now the expert opinion required is - how to check the sub-woofer without the receiver at seller's place. She says its packed in the box & she never used it. I can check the physical damage to the cone & everything else. Can I connect my cellphone with the sub-woofer (sounds crazy ??) with an AV cable with a 3.5mm jack on side. Would it work? I checked on the net & I don't have a multimeter.
Moreover I could not understand how to test it with 9V battery (Smoke alarm battery).

How much is she selling the XW-500D for? If it's cheap enough, buy with the understanding that you're not buying a DOA subwoofer.

Yeah, that's a good idea, but my receiver (Denon 1713) is back to best buy for repair as it was doing auto restart after 30-40 seconds. That's why I was wondering if i can do it with my cellphone?

The specs show

INPUTS: L/R Line-level RCA jacks

Since it's line-level I think you can use a cellphone to drive it, how much, that's a different story...

Shipping to IL is $48, brings it to $218, which is a steal! Never heard of the seller though...

Shipping to Houston is also $48 (total $218).

Reviews on the seller are mixed. What should we do?

It's a refurbished/Used item. Would Klipsch cover the warranty on that too?

Yes, but only grill is broken. But if I get a working rw-12D in $218 (shipped) then I don't care about the grill which I don't use at all on my other Klipsch speakers.

I am just worried whether I would get a working rw-12D or not?

You could get it and it could sound perfect, or it could sound a little off and either way you will always wonder how it would sound if it were new. Point is that unless you have a new one to compare with, you will never know.

I had a broken grille when I bought mine from Newegg and Klipsch support sent me a new one under warranty. You could always try calling them and see if they will send you a new one. If not you can get one from Amazon and probably elsewhere. The part number is 103091 for the grille.
