give us a budget to work with, and then we can get somewhere... and yes, EVERYONE has a budget... it's not going to do anyone any good to simply produce a list of things that ar out of your budget range...

the size of your room and listening habits wouldn't hurt either...

What are your expectations? Do you just want a subwoofer or do you want some way cool, rock the house bass? Me? I care about budget.

Budget could be $300.00 or it could literally be $18,000.00 and for various reasons, a whole lot in the middle.

Budget please?

at around 2k (actually a few dollars more, but if you are gonna spend 2k, another hundred or two won't hurt), there are two choices...

one is the seaton submersive, and the other is the jtr captivator... imo, there's really nothing else in that price range that is worth considering, if "performance" is your only criteria...

i own the submersive, and since we all like to recommend what we own, that's what i would buy... smile.gif

IF you can diy (and have the tools or access to them), that opens up a whole new can of beans, and you can do a lot with 2k... big if there though...

one man's opinion...

The subs from Funk Audio also are worth looking at, the 18.1, 18.0c, 15.3, and 15.0 are all below $2k, and easily look to be the equals of any of the above listed subs.

At this price point, all things considering, I don't have ten recommendations, I have one recommendation, a pair of SVS, PB12-NSD.

Due to sound holes in a room, multiple subs help fill these sound holes in. If possible, always buy two or more subs as the more subs the merrier. To get automatic EQ subwoofer sound, with your budget, I'd recommend buying a pair of SVS, PB12-NSD subs and in the near term, for an additional cost of $450.00, buy an automatic subwoofer EQ; Anti-Mode, 8033S II.

With speakers and subs, how a room's acoustics perform, is equally as important as the quality of one's sound reproduction gear.

I would buy the best subwoofer my money could get. You can get a SubM with a used amp then later when money allows get the HP amp.Or just go the extra few $$$$ and get the SubM HP.
Later on when money allows do it again to have multiples. One SubM Hp will provide alot of smile.gif and give you something to work towards in the future. You may be happy with just one.
2 cents

The ten best subwoofers were built into their homes or listening rooms by true audio enthusiasts. Wanna be one? ;-)

Are you open to multiples if they stay within your range? Are you open to passive setups as well? If so, does your budget include extra for amplification?

I am in love with my M&K MX-350 THX. Purchased it in 2000 and retail at the time was $1,900.00 Sounds brand new today but dread the day that it eventually dies. My understanding is that SVS subs are also very good (and a great value) but I've not yet heard one in person. My next sub may either be one of Ken Kriesel's new MX-5000 THX replacements (forget the model number) or Martin Logan's Descent line (three 10" subs in one cabinet). Not cheap either way I go...

If willing to go with the above, a suggestion would be to consider the "Funk Audio" line of subwoofers. Currently, I'm saving up for a pair of 18.0 C's.

For 2k and under:

1) Dual Hsu VTF-15's
2) Single passive JTR Captivator (if you can get an amp for under $500)
3) Single SVS PB-13 Ultra

For 2.5k and under

1) Single Seaton Submersive
2) JL Fathom F110
3) Dual Hsu ULS-15's

Sorry, I'd love to suggest 10, but 6 is all I've got to put forth.

Have you actually ordered from either company? I've had good experiences with all 3 of these companies, which is why I recommended them. Yes, sometimes Chad is slow to get back, but he always takes care of business.

The empires (dual) remain my favorite pick for music under 2k. Outside of DIY of course. tongue.gif

I haven't ordered from either, however I can read the threads and digest the information. When there is a common theme it should give people pause. CS is important for many and also a sign of a healthy business imho.
The Epik subs aren't in question (atleast by me) nor did I say that. Pop into the Epik thread to see how the CS is.

CS and support are vital elements in selecting a quality product. If you observe piss poor CS and long lines of neglected customers, that would be enough notice for me to go elsewhere. How anybody can advocate a product with crappy CS and support is beyond me. Or a business owner threatening to close his doors.

And remember ED had some pretty crappy CS for many months before it blew up. Read the threads, be forewarned by the data and history. Make an educated, wise choice.

Epik has no product to sell:

"We have SOLD OUT of all our subwoofers and do not have any idea when more will be available. It will be at least a month"
