I have a big room (4700 cuFt). Tile floors. I know I can't "energize" the room on my budget (whatever that means), but I'd like to do the best I can within my budget. Here are three options I've been mulling over:

1) Klipsch RW-12D. Everyone seems to love it. Seems to have good ectension and plays strong for it's pricepoint. $300 deal.

2) PA-150. Not a whole lot of reviews. Seems to have more output than the 12D at 30+ Hz, but nothing below. Probably around $350.

3) Polk PSW505. Generally favorable reviews, but seems to be less popular than the RW-12D. Not much info as to extension or output of this sub. Anyone know? I've read the Klipsch is "better", but at the sale price of $190 I could get a pair. WAF may be an issue, but if 2 505's are better than 1 12D, I may be able to sway this direction. $190x2=$380

Also should mention 85/15 mix of HT vs music, though music typically isn't that loud.

Any comments or suggestions? (And the Epik legend is sold out, regardless if it has bad amps or not ;-) )

For me, the choice is simple. For all the technically correct reasons, the choice is the Klipsch, RW-12d. A decision you should be quick to make as the Newegg deal is about to disappear. Ya snooze, ya lose. That kinda thing.

I had the same decision two days ago, but with a few more choices as I was also looking at the stf-2. If you aren't convinced about the rw-12d yet, read through the budget subwoofer thread, and the threads by archaea, and the sound and vision shootout where it holds it's own with some 7-800 subs.

Mine will be here thursday.

.

this is ultimatley what made me pull the trigger on the rw-12d over the psw505. people hate on it at its $699 retail price because there are other subs for that money that obviously out perform it. But at under $300 shipped to your doorstep?

newegg reviews for the last month or so are reporting that newegg is now packaging the sub box within another box with foam around it. cool.gif

True. That's why the ad says "with new box". I received mine double boxed with foam between the boxes. UPS was still able to punch a
large hole through both boxes but luckily the sub was not harmed. It must have come close though.Chances are your sub will come through fine.

http://www.avsforum.com/t/1390563/klipsch-rw-12d-omnimic-frequency-response-graphs - excellent review by Archaea, subwoofer has been discontinued by Kliipsch (Oct 2012) but can still be purchased at some retailers.

PA-150 See Josh Ricci's excellent review at data-bass.com

http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volume_12_2/polk-psw-505-subwoofer-4-2005.html - Ed Mullen review of 505, little output below 30-35 Hz but still may be reasonable for music and some HT situations. " As expected, room gain helped considerably to improve deep extension, with the Polk holding flat to about 25 Hz, and then dropping to –10 dB at 20 Hz" . Polk sub amps have generally been quite reliable.

The Klipsch is fantastic, but I don't understand why more people don't recommend the BIC pl-200. You can get it for $279, it goes down to 22hz, has a 250 watt RMS amp, and it's beautiful to boot.

Mostly I would imagine because the RW has 100 more watts. Also it is a Klipsch.

No, Mr. Bond. I expect you to die!

Let's see, if I buy this bourbon here, I'll save ten bucks AND HATE MYSELF IN THE MORNING! That sort of thing. Which do you care more about, twenty bucks or the sound quality that twenty bucks will get you?

The PA 150 is a beast in your price range. With in-room extension it will take you down to 20 Hz for some room rattling. Great output on the high end and can hit 120 db.

Klipsch RF 7 based HT 7.4, Pioneer SC 35, Acurus Five 200 amp, Chase SS 18.2(2), VS 18.1(2), Samsung BDP F 7500, Asus/My Book Live HPC 4 TB

people sleep on the bic pl 200- it's better then the PA-150

As far as the klipsch, I guess as long as you can get it on sale fine but for most people in their homes won't even have the opportunity to even notice the difference between this and the 200 IF you even can!

I have both the bic pl-200 and Klipsch RW-12d, they are quite evenly matched by my estimation.

Actually the PA-150 is a better sub from 20hz and up. From 40hz and up you would need two PL200's to equal a single PA-150 from an output perspective.:
http://www.data-bass.com/systems

It really will come down to budget as the PA-150 will cost more.
