I just spent hours last night searching for the best Bass songs I could find in ITunes.

I think some of these would be great to use at the Sub Shoot Outs for the Music portion of the Shoot Out.

Many of them Sound great for Bass. Let me know if any of you can add some killer Bass songs to the list.

These are in no particular order but there are alot of good ones in the top 30.

I will add any that you give me to this list and send it back out

Best regards,
AK

DJ Deep and Techmaster - Slowed Down Bass - Blinded by Bass ( With BassBoy)
Hardest hitting bass I have ever heard. I have 2 SVS 13 ultras and 2 MFW 15's.. It will actually make the windows flex in my house like I was in a car audio contest.

Here's one that will test pitch definition, transient attack and extension and is of reference recording status "Ramsey Lewis" People make the world go round" on his "Ivory Pyramids" disc, 2-3 other tracks as well!
Enjoy!

Most of these songs were recorded before the subwoofer was invented, so I wouldn't call them good tests of subwoofer capabilities.
The definition of subwoofer is a speaker that plays the freqnecies below where a woofer does. When these songs were recorded the definition of a woofer was a speaker capable of reaching 41 Hz, the lowest fundamental of the double-bass and electric bass. In testing that capability they would be fine.
In the decades since most of these were recorded sound playback systems have changed, as today pure woofers have been supplanted for the most part by subwoofers that extend as high as 100Hz, and midbasses that only go to 80Hz. Where woofers are still employed is primarily in floorstanders, and that's the speaker type whose bass response would still be well examined by playing these songs through them. If you really want to show the capabilities of true subwoofers you'd need to update the artist selection list by 20 to 50 years.

Also moot with respect to subs, as pitch definition and transient attack are midbass and midrange attributes.

I completely agree that this selection is poor for subwoofer testing and evaluation. But how is it that pitch definition and transient attack do not pertain to the lower bass region? That is, don't lower-octave notes also need to be discrete and easily distinguishable? And don't lower-octave notes also benefit from a fast attack (which I take to mean, "being generated with minimal delay"--is this untrue?)

No, as your ear/brain isn't wired to distinguish pitch much below 50Hz. Even at 50-80Hz pitch is very difficult to discern in the absence of harmonics, but that's of no consequence, as harmonics are always present.

All subs 'attack' at the same speed. They can decay at different rates when the signal ceases, and that effect can be heard in the midbass and higher. It can't be heard in the lower octaves, as the brain overrides whatever cues that may exist down low with what it receives in the midbass and mids.

Nothing of consequence where subs are concerned. It's one of those things that can drive oddiophools nuts, because it can appear on a chart as a seemingly high number, and while they on the one hand insist that they can hear things that can't be measured, they on the other hand insist that anything that can be measured can be heard. Taint so.
A sub with audible group delay would be such a flawed design that the group delay would be the least of its problems. For that matter even in the midbass and higher group delay is seldom an issue in and of itself as much as it's an indicator of other design flaws of a more serious nature.

Check out the group Bassnectar (CD Vava Voom track What digs a bit deep).... Their stuff isn't really my cup of tea, yet there's no denying listening to them is quite analogous to playing very select snippets of movies just for the sheer low end pleasure. I just pretend I'm listening to a car chase scene in a game, or a documentary about the Rave scene. tongue.gif

The songs on that list feature a recognizable bass line, not necessarily strong bass output. The lowest notes I've ever heard from any song or movie is "Childhood Dreams" by Nelly Furtado (spelled correctly?) It has pipe organ notes that shake everything in the house.

Looked this one up on You Tube. A keeper for sure, thanks! I like the slower pace of this one. I was listening at like -30 because my kids were around and it was already pounding pretty good!

I'm not a fan of dubstep or whatever the kids call it so I like to go with something a little old school. Plus my music collection doesn't feature a lot of hip hop anyhow. But I do have the entire Beastie Boys collection and "Intergalactic" is a damn fine song to piss off the neighbors.

Glad you found it enjoyable. I had a friend over yesterday for the Falcons playoff game and I played the song during half-time. His jaw came off the floor just before the second half started. biggrin.gif

Rufus Wainwright's "Oh What a World"
Avril Lavigne's "Sk8ter Boi"

Both those songs have very deep deep bass that will shake the soul.

I've tried most of the usual suspects (Bass I Love You, Bass Mekanic, Bassnectar) and the one that wreaks the most havoc in my house is Bass Outlaws/Illegal Bass.

Listened to this last night. I just cannot handle that amount of low bass. My ears and my house begs for mercy.

I don't know about you guys, but low bass hurts my ears, and I for one cannot listen to much of it for any amount of time.

It's definitely a novelty thing for me and a little exercise for the SubM HP smile.gif.

While I wouldn't classify it as the lowest octave winner; the 1812 Overture on SACD is about as good as it gets for an "earal" assault. biggrin.gif
