I currently have a Velodyne CHT-8 from back in the day. Worth it to upgrade to the Klipsch RW-12D?

You're comparing an 8" sub to a 12" sub. A 12" sub has about four times the output of an 8" sub. Absolutely, if the money is there, at the delivered price a RW-12d can be had on Newegg, it's worth it.

But before you pull the trigger, answer me this, what is the size of the room this will be placed in and what are your ultimate subwoofer goals?

CHT-8
- 8" driver
- 130W RMS
- 35Hz @ -?dB

RW-12d
- 12" driver
- 350W continuous
- 24Hz @ -3dB

The RW-12d should significantly outperform your CHT-8 in terms of both output and extension. From a performance perspective, it's a very worthwhile upgrade.

Thanks guys. I was already leaning towards grabbing one. But I just upgraded the fronts/center so this might have to be put off for a little while.
And maybe newegg will do the 300 sale sometime again.

Not meaning to be a "Debbie the Downer" but my guess, based on Newegg having to re-box the sub, betting with your money, I'm betting that the $349.99, shipped price, is the new on sale price and we won't be seeing $299.99 anymore. If your credit card has the price matching feature, you can always use the price matching feature and apply for the refund.

Wasn't it $300 a month ago?

Anyways, I'm not in a big hurry to get it since I already have a sub, albeit a small one. One component at a time!

Sure, that was back in the day when all the shipping boxes were getting crushed by the delivery services.

Makes sense. Guess it will have to wait, there's only so much a poor college student can afford at a time haha. Thanks for the help.

The P's do not care for sound quality, for them, a working sub is just fine. haha.

The sub I have right now is pretty loud already, what am I getting by upgrading? I know the Klipsch can go lower, but what does that do? It also has more power, but my sub is already pretty loud.. I think..

One needs to look to the specification and do a comparative analysis.

What are the specs for each of the amplifiers?

What is the driver size?

What is the stated range of your sub vs that of the sub you currently have?

Movies sound tracks are spec'd for 20Hz - 120Hz in the LFE channel.

In truth, your comments read like someone who's happy with their sub.

I guess more like someone who hasn't heard anything OTHER than my sub.

Kinda hard to hit up the P's based on your above. tongue.gif

I was wrong on the Klipsch, RW-12d as again, it's currently on sale for a delivered $299.99. This would be an excellent upgrade over your current subwoofer. The two that I like at this price point are the Klipsch, RW-12d that can be had over at Newegg for $299.00 and the BIC, PL-200 that can be had on Amazon for a delivered price of about 10% more. Both are very capable subwoofers that will rock the joint on Friday night.

Agreeing with you, latte's at home, no Micky D's or Sunday drives, Rock Star from Costco, pass on the new RPG every two weeks, cable TV w/microwave popcorn vs movie night out; it quickly adds up.
