The reason that individuals in this forum like objective reviews by professional reviewers or highly skilled amateurs with suitable measurement equipment is that it is far easier to compare different subwoofers.
A case in point: Read the first half of the subjective reviews in the sets of comments in this forum on the Lava LSP-12. After the objective review appeared in audioholics, the comments changed considerably.
- Lava LSP-12 - drops off substantially below 35 Hz
You can read excellent reviews by Josh Ricci of the Premier Acoustic PA-150 and the BIC PL-200 at www.data-bass.com
. At under $300, the PL-200 is likely the most highly recommended subwoofer in this forum (check the PL-200 threads to get the best price).
At around $400, individuals like the Hsu STF-2 that do not show some of the deficiencies of the lesser priced subs (one note wonders or little output below 30 Hz).
- STF-2 review by Ed Mullen
- excellent review by Archaea, subwoofer RW-12D has been discontinued by Kliipsch (Oct 2012) but can still be purchased at some retailers. Often listed at $499 or $599 but is a real bargain when sold at $299.
