I believe the LFE is ALWAYS directed to the subwoofer, if present and enabled, and is not affected by the cutoff frequency. The cutoff frequency only affects L, R, C and S channels and at what part of their content is redirected to the subwoofer.

In newer AVR speaker menus, there's a heading for crossovers and one sets this to 80Hz and your in the heading for speaker size, set all the speakers to small so all the bass will be ported (managed) over to the subwoofer system.

but I can tell the difference between 70hz and 120hz for the subwoofer at least when playing music, I have not compared when changing it during a movie. so either

a) It gets thrown away
b) It gets re-directed to the other channels.

Using Lexicon MC-8.

I'm using an Onkyo 818 avr, ML electromotion ESLs (L,R) , ML C2 for centre, 4 FX2s (surrounds and rears). I do not have the option of selecting "small". It's "full range" (which is used if I'm not using a sub) and all other options are selecting the Hz crossover. It doesn't matter what I set the crossovers at, audyssey will set them back to what my speakers are capable of handling. The crossover rating for the fronts is labelled at 40Hz, and that's what audyssey will set it as. I'd rather the sub handle everything below 80.

The LPF to LFE is set 120Hz. I have no doubt the ultra can handle it with ease!wink.gif

Not always setup might be picking up room gain, setup set my standmounts to large. Always change them to the right crossover settings after auto setup.

Hey all, I just found this thread after I posted the following message in the Official SVS Owners thread

I just received my new SB13-Ultra and have found a problem with the front grill. First let me say that I have the sub sitting on its rubber feet and the curve of the grill doesn't fit vertically like its supposed to, it only fits horizontally. The spacing for the mounting holes seems to be off and turned 90* from where they should be. The horizontal spacing between the holes from center to center is 12 5/8" and vertical spacing is 13 3/4" Has anyone else had this problem? I bought it from sonicboom here in Canada and need some feedback as to what I should do to get it fixed or if I should even bother. I'm trying to decide if I want to make an issue of it and if I even want to use the grill in the first place. It just kind of ticks me off, I spent close to $1800 cdn after shipping and taxes for this beast and now I either have to live with it as is or deal with getting it exchanged. Can someone please take some measurements of their SB13 and post them? I need to know if I was sent the wrong grill or if the holes in the box were drilled in the wrong place. Thanks

^^ Scar: The dimension of my sb13-ultra grille peg locations are as follows (note: dimensions are in inches, not metric):

Height between the holes / grille pegs = 12-5/8" (12.625")
Width between the holes / grille pegs = 14"

Your holes certainly don't match with mine. Call SVS.

If it's the width, then just bend the grille a bit? I had to squeeze mine a little, not much about 3mm or so.

If only it were that easy, the hole spacings I have are exactly opposite of what dsrussel has.

Mine arrived less than a week ago from sonic boom audio, no issues. The grill wasn't a "perfect fit" but it didn't take much to make it fit (maybe 1/8" or slightly more) but the grill is rounded, so it was an easy fix. If it's off by a significant amount, I'd contact sonic, they seem like a good crowd to deal with. Plus like you said, it's not a cheap sub, so it's nice to have everything just right. I'm sure there's something they can do, it's not the sub itself, so that's a good thing.

Actually, it appears that the holes in the subwoofer were fouled up. Scar mentioned that the only way he could get the grille to fit was inserting it horizontally. Not good.

Yep, the holes were fouled up. I sent an email to the guys at Sonicboom and they have been in contact with SVS in the states. They have offered me a $200 credit to keep the sub as is or Sonicboom will swap it with a new one in early march when they get the next shipment of gloss black SB13's. I think I'm just gonna keep it as is and take the $200. Trying to arrange a swap around my job schedule would be a pain in the butt and my poor aching back and I love watching that driver do its thing. Hats off to Sonicboom and SVS and their top notch customer service.

Any new owners of this sub here who compared it to the JL E112?

I am aware of the price and woofer size difference but know the JL can be had for less than MSRP.

Any thoughts?

Hello,

Is this sub overkill with Genelec G Three? Also can I use with Cambridge Audio dacmagicplus? I mean connections from dac to sub and from sub to speakers.

I'm asking bec in future I'm planning to get 3 x G4 or 3 x 8050 in front and use G3 as surround. Now I just have a pair of G3.

Thanks

Lol, I think i'm getting the same batch of SB13 Ultra as u are~ When I 1st unboxed the Sub, I was wondering why is the sub feet not inline with the grill logo, I thought they stick the feet wrongly but apparently it's the grill that has wrong direction.

Hi

I have my crossover on 200hz for my sb13-ultra! Thats the only way I can get the flattest bassrepons with my dspeaker dual core 2.0. Must have some phasingissues? Have runned audyssey multieq XT. But if i lower the crossover I get large dips with audyssey off. with audyssey on but bypass front L and R it gets flatter! but only when crossover is on 200hz! When i just measure the subwoofer with XTZ i get a sweet flat response but integrated it ****s up frown.gif Tried to play with the distance in my denon but it wont help! i think that audyssey did the measuring right becuase its get worse when i change the distance on the sub.

Altought, its sounds wonderful, but it seems wierd to have it that high right? I cannot locate the sub so the phasing seems right! smile.gif I have b&w 683 fronts.

Love my new sub biggrin.gif

Do you think that the SVS SB-13 Ultra would work with the JL AUDIO F113?  I am thinking of getting two SVS SB-13 Ultra to fill in the other corners of my room!

Hello SB13 owners,

I am new to the AVR world and new to this wonder forum.  I have recently purchased the start of my sound system.  I currently have a pair of B&W CM9's (found at an outlet for $2100) along with a Marantz SR 6008 (Christmas promo, $600).  My next big selection is a sub or maybe even two.  SVS seems to be the clear choice, but I am not sure if one SB13 is where I want to be, or 2 SB12-NSDs.  I have a room about  15'x10' and my current room is pretty sound proof because of build, so my neighbors really don't hear much.  With my current job, I move quite frequently, so room sizes will change depending on which place i move to next.  I am about 50/50 on music and movies. Any have any thoughts?

My room is 19x12. I am also 50/50 music to movies. One SB13 Ultra does VERY well. I listen to music at -10 to reference and movies around -15 to -10. I am very happy with the Ultra. Although one more down the road to help even out the bass will be in my best interest. I have never heard my Ultra show any signs of struggle even at reference levels. Its a beast for such a little guy biggrin.gif

I think a pair of SB13 Ultras will match up very well with your F113/F113's. I have an SB13 Plus(95% same as Ultra) and it mates up very nicely with a pair of Klipsch RT-10d's, an RSW-10d, and a Revel B15. All are very musical subs with good attack and speed and tonally similar.

The SB13 Ultra is a "common man's" F113 with very similar performance capabilities.

After much deliberations, I've finally decided to pick up a SB13 ultra and return the pc12 plus. It was a tough call between the pc13 ultra and sb13 ultra for a 3500+ cf space. I was concerned about output but ultimately went with the sb13 ultra because i believe i prefer the bass of a sealed sub. I was using the pc12 plus strictly in sealed mode anyway. Now for the wait. Should be here by next friday. Hope I've made the correct choice.

Thanks CChunter,

Reading most of this forum and other reviews, I can see the SB13 ultra being one of the best for its price, but I am still unclear if this beats out 2 SB12-NSDs.  I can get 2 used SB12-NSDs for 1100 at SVS outlet and save on a little cash for a SVS center possibly.  But if the SB-13 ultra or even the plus is the clear winner over 2 SB12 NSDs, then I may bite the bullet to go ahead with the SB13 ultra.  Your thoughts sir?

Quandom,
Well I also pondered that same exact question when I was looking at subs. Here's how it went down for me. I thought two PB12 NSD's or one SB13 Ultra or one PB12 Plus. I also had ported subs in the past so I was quite familiar with there port chuffing when pushing them hard and that noise really bugged me to say the least. I read countless reviews on the SB13 Ultra and was very impressed. I knew that two subs would even out the bass response throughout the room but I also wanted a smaller sub and two PB12 NSD's would need alot of room. I finally came to the decision that the SB13 Ultra would be perfect and I planned on getting one more down the road to even out the bass in my room. I also didn't want to worry about not having enough headroom so again the Ultra was in my favor. Trust me the SB13 is so smooth and detailed even when pushed extremely hard. It may not have the output like the bigger ported but I knew one more down the road would be just right. I've had the Ultra for about 4 months now and it still impresses me with music and movies. It is the backbone of my system hands down. Best decision I ever made when it came to my setup. I wait patiently for the funds to get one more but I am totally satisfied with having just one. Oh yea back to your question. I believe one SB13 beats out two SB12 NSD's. Good luck on your decision!

I was concerned about output but ultimately went with the sb13 ultra because i believe i prefer the bass of a sealed sub. I was using the pc12 plus strictly in sealed mode anyway. Now for the wait. Should be here by next friday. Hope I've made the correct choice.

How was that sub in sealed handling that decent size space?
