Curious if anyone has tried plugging the port of a ported sub with positive results. I have a pair of PB12-NSD subs and was curious of experimenters out there who have successfully tuned their systems by 'sealing' a ported sub, a PB12-NSD in particular.

Not a supported configuration I'm sure, but would this damage the driver and potentially overheat the amp inside?

Plugging the port reduces low frequency sensitivity. That could result in driver damage if you turn it up louder to compensate for that.

Just out of curiosity; what are you looking to accomplish by plugging the port?

I went ahead and plugged the ports, tested the response and listened to the results yesterday - because I was curious. The two PB12's sound great and they integrate nicely with my SM65's but since this is a hobby I really enjoy, I couldn't help but try to see how I could alter the sound - for better or for worse. In this case, made worse by plugging.

But in the process of testing out different configurations, I was actually able to improve the sound by moving the subs to their new locations. So, in all - a productive Sunday afternoon. biggrin.gif
