Trying to decide between the 2 following subs. I have B&W fronts and center and wanted to keep the B&W brand for all my speakers. But for the same price I can pick up a Definitive Technology - ProSub 1000 10" 300-Watt or should I just stick with the Bowers and Wilkins - 8" 200-Watt. Both have excellent reviews but the DF has better. What do you all think?

My receiver is a Pioneer VSX 53.

I own DT subs go with a SVS NSD 12 sub you won't regret it.

Can you elaborate on what most ID brand sub means.

This means Internet-Direct brands, those who sell only online. Some well-regarded examples are Hsu, SVS and Outlaw.

+1. Good recommendation. I'd take this over any DefTech sub.

^ Well- not considering price- that would be foolish as either a DT Supercube Reference or Trinity would walk all over it. I realize many in these parts love to bash the living hell out of b&m subs- and DT's prolly near the top of the that list- but someone has to shelve some of this nonsense.

Actual phone call (see pic to left):

Tech (responding to laughter): "I'm sorry sir, did I miss something?"

Me: "Yeah, a case of Diet Mountain Dew walking across my living room."

The OP was eyeing two subs: a B&W 8"-er (most likely the ASW608) and the ProSub 1000. The SVS seems like a no-brainer choice over either of those.

Without getting into the internet direct versus brick and mortar debate, I would recommend you read up on the variety of brands which dominate these boards as already mentioned above (the ID). I have all B&W speakers in my HT, yet I went with Velodyne for my sub as it was small in size with respectable bass. There's no HT law that says you have to stick with the same brand of sub as your other speakers, unless you prefer it that way.

I've got B&W's all around and SVS subs. I like the idea of a matching finish on the subs to the mains (Rosenut), but the superior performance of the SVS Ultra units is not a minor factor. I still occasionally look for something a little more matching (Funywaves, Hsu ULS15, Seaton SubM, etc.). Man, I wish SVS would bring back their rosewood color. So, seriously consider an internet direct vendor. Can't go wrong with any of the frequently talked about ones here (SVS, Hsu, Outlaw, Seaton, JTR, Funywaves, etc.).

Why do all of my threads suck? Is there an internet posting school somewhere? -wes k
