As the title says I have 1000$ to buy a sub and receiver with. Not the largest sum of money but will hopefully get the job done
I apologize if this is not an appropriate place for this thread but I couldn't decide where to post in either the receiver or the sub thread....hopefully I dont step on any toes
*you dont need to read the whole thing if you would just like to recommend anything it is still appreciated I understand its kinda a wall of text I apologizeCurrent Set Up
Definitive Technology Mythos Four (fronts)
Definitive Technology ProCenter 1000 (center)
Definitive Technology Mythos Gem (surrounds)
****** 150$ Sony Subwoofer (embarrassing)
Denon AVR 1609 7.1 (receiver)Current Issues
- My subwoofer to put it gently is a joke. I bought it because I didnt have money at the time (3 years ago)
- The Denon doesn't have audio over HDMI (big issue) and as a result does not have Dobly True HD
Desires but not required
- A subwoofer that can pack a punch (pretty much the best bang for my buck)
- HD audio
- at least 5.1
- automatic calibration set up (like Audyssey)
- 3D support
- 7.1 audio
- lots of HDMI inputs (at least 4 but its not going to kill me if there is less)
- Airplay (I can always use a raspberry pie or other accessories)
I am a college student and live in a fraternity house so noise is not a big concern. My room is about 12ft x 12ft (estimate) and probably 8ft ceilings.Elaboration
I am trying to build a system to be proud of and have been pinching my pennys to afford it but its a passion most of you understand. I bought the mythos when they were new at 700$ each for the towers but they are obviously worth much less now. They are still nice speakers though, not the best but not to shabby.
For subs I have been looking at SVS after everyone has been shunning the definitive technology subwoofers. I would prefer not to purchase a cylinder sub but it wouldn't kill me. I have been looking at the SB 12-NSD (outlet) or PB1000 but not sure which to choose. I listen to pretty loud movies and music and would lean towards buying a sub that is more suited for movies.
For receivers I am pretty lost. SO MANY OPTIONS holy cow. I loved my Denon but would be willing to explore others. I can buy used or refurbished but am a little skeptical of not buying from authorized dealer incase things break.
If you read all the way down here YOU ARE AWESOME! Let me know if you have any questions I would love to start a dialogue
