I have a 500 sq ft room and a set of EMPtek towers/center SLS q line surrounds.
The weak link in this HT setup is a 150 watt, 8 inch SLS sub. Cannot spend even a penny more than 500, counting shipping!
Best subs in the under 500 often mentioned:
klipsch rd-12, EMPtek 10i10i, and the SVS 10 inch sealed sub, which occasionally dips under 500! Any others? Thoughts?

Set up #1: EMP e5ti, e5Ci, and SLS Q line Audio surrounds, EMP 10i10i sub
Set up #2: Def Tech SM450, CLR2002, SLS Qline surrounds and Klipsch 12wD sub
Set up #3: JBL130, JBL120C and Klipsch synergy sub

500 sq.ft. is a pretty big space. One of any sub under $500 is going to have a challenge. That said, both the Klipsch RW-12d (frequently on sale at Newegg.com for $300 or less, plus shipping) and the SVS PB-1000 ($499, shipped) are solid options. Another sub that is reputed to have pretty strong output and decent extension is the Premier Acoustic PA-150 (currently $425, shipped, at Amazon.com).

Not sure what the EMP Tek ES10i10i's output is like, but it certainly doesn't dig very deep (30-150Hz +/-3dB). I'd pass on it.

Eventually I will have dual subs, but for now, just need better than the SLS 8 inch sub ( good accurate sub, but not even close to able to fill that space).

Set up #1: EMP e5ti, e5Ci, and SLS Q line Audio surrounds, EMP 10i10i sub
Set up #2: Def Tech SM450, CLR2002, SLS Qline surrounds and Klipsch 12wD sub

Can you stretch your budget? SB12 B stock is listed for $599.00 shipped, I use the SB12 in a 15x15x10 listening area, with the dial set at 12, bass is great with movies and music, very clean smooth output, more then enough, I thought i would need two of them but one shakes my entire room. Once I sell my Epik Legend I will be putting dual SB12's in my family room.

I have a Legend for sale if your interested PM me.

For $500 I would buy a SVS PB1000 & add a 2nd one down the road when you can afford it if you want more output or more even bass.

Why not check out used subs which might be available in your area? Classifieds here or over at ChaseHomeTheater, for example, may provide a good place to start.

I agree.

Another option is to wait until Outlaw has a sale. I bought a lfm-1 plus for $499 shipped a few months back.

I strongly considered the outlaw, but currently it is 550 plus shipping, so well out of the budget. With free shipping from new egg, I can get two Klipsch rd-12 for slightly less that one outlaw!
Btw, ordered the Klipsch today...thanks much for the advice, however!

JBL has a sealed sub es250p for 399, claims it plays to 25hz. I have this sub in my. gaming room, it does decent job. but it tends to get boomy and distorted at higher volumes.

Hsu Research HB-1 MK2
Hsu Research Hc-1 MK2
Hsu Research VTF3 mk4 12" subwoofer
JBL Surrounds ES 20's

I would wait for the Sale on the Outlaw Audio LFM-1 Plus, which will be $499 w/ free shipping. I picked up my duals around Christmas of '11 for $998 shipped, I have been extremely happy with them.

That'll be a heck of an improvement over your 8" sub biggrin.gif

If you have an amp you may want to consider this sub for $500:

http://www.chasehometheater.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=586&category_id=29&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=143

That price may not even be correct. There was a sale going on when I inquired since the price I was quoted was less than the price online so best bet is to inquire if interested.

Good luck!

If you can stretch your budget to 560 you can pick up 2 klipsch rw-12ds at newegg right now. You will just need to purchase them separately under 2 different e-mail accounts:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882780078

I just upgraded from 2 of these to a PSA XV15 but the pair of klipsch were awesome for the money.
