Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone could make some quick suggestions before I pull the trigger hopefully this week on a new sub. I'll list some info off the top of my head that hopefully will help out in narrowing down my choice:

A) The room is approximately 7000^3 due to the open architecture design.
B) Cannot be multiple subs.
C) Placement will be in a corner right next to one of the mains.
D) Enclosure size can be up to: 24x48x90 / WxDxH
E) Budget of $6000

Right now I'm looking at:
DTS-10
Orbit Shifter
Gjallarhorn (only IF I can find a carpenter as I have zero drive to make it myself)

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Would try and contact the companies to see what they suggest. Given the space, you may end up stacking two or three subs.

Two SVS PB ultra 13's would cover that area better than 1 large sub. There will be holes in the room with one sub covering that much area.

Klipsch RF 7 based HT 7.4, Pioneer SC 35, Acurus 200 Five, Dayton 18 Ultimxa Dual Sub Cab(2), Dayton 18 Ultimax Large Vented Sub Cab (2), on Berhinger I Nuke DPS amps, Samsung BDP F 7500, Asus/My Book Live HPC 4 TB

Yaquin VK 2100 amp, McIntosh XR 5 speakers, Samsung BDP F 7500

I vote orbit shifter. Its the most powerful powerful single sub I know of.

Thats the dj variant.

I'd recommend this one instead for home use. It is active, powered by a 4000 watt amp.

We heard a pair in my home in the 2012 meet linked in my sig. We peaked at 137 dB on the omnimic in the back of the room. It cracked all the grout in between the tiles in my kitchen upstairs. We broke my projector color alignment, broke my hd-dvd player, broke my home theater bluray drive, knocked out several lightbulbs, knocked a two pound wooden statue off a tv shelf, loosed my drywall in my theater room and of course knocked pictures down. Those orbit shifters hit spl levels that make your skin tingle and neck hair stand on end. They are the real deal!

Yea, but other than that what makes the OS seem special to you? tongue.gif

Ha - Jim --
Cause nothing else I've ever heard comes even close to replicating that absurdity of volume outside of competition car audio. Not even eight 15's in a smaller room infinite baffle setup. Even with a single orbit shifter at carp's room we were watching some clips from Terminator Salvation and carp and I exclaimed to each other that the bass coming from the single orbit shifter was probably louder than if a 80 foot robot was tromping around outside his house initiating the carnage right next door. It's truly absurd. I've heard the DTS-10 on a couple occasions now and while very impressive in it's own right - I didn't feel like a single DTS-10 was competing in the same league. That may have been setup - but I've heard both on a couple occasions in a couple different rooms. I have not heard the Gjallarhorn.

Even better - It's not just a blunt abuse tool. Sound quality is excellent, and it's placed in the top tier for sound quality in all the meets it has been involved in as well. If you've got the room for it, and the form factor isn't an eyesore in your room - it's hard to overlook.

Here's some review snippets on the mobile version of the orbit shifter (that jeremymak linked above) at a recent pro audio showdown. It sounds like the orbit shifters stole the show. The home theater variant is engineered to produce the lower frequencies geared towards home theater use.

The double PBS ultras wouldn't work for me because I would have to stack them. As I said I only have a single area I can put the sub.

The subject is moot anyway since I pulled the trigger and ordered an orbit shifter. Thanks for the help guys.

It's comments like this that make me question my affection toward multiple sealed drivers. If I had 6 g's to experiment with I'd have to experience a pair of these bad boys behind my screen.
