This is the system as it sits now:

I am looking to finally add back a sub which I have gone without for about 6 months. I used to have a H100 and it was good but not great, I recently ordered a F12 and the thing was dead out of the box.

Now I am just sick of not having one and want to get it done (for now...)

I am looking to spend at a max $800.

Looking at options from SVS and just found PSA. Biggest issue with them is they both seem to be in Ohio with tax they put me over budget. Otherwise I really like the PSA XS15 or XV15. I mean its 15"... that has to be better!

I mainly just use the setup for Movies and TV music is a non issue. I also do not tend to listen at high volumes but like the extra feel and experience a sub woofer adds. The room is not super big maybe 1500 cu/ft but does have an opening in one corner that I can not close, which opens up to the entire house.

I also started looking at the Klipsh option to have 2 subs, but not sure which way to go. Reading though everything it gives me a headache. What would you do?

IMO:
- The Outlaw LFM-1 EX ($649 + shipping) will offer the most performance for your budget.
- The SVS PB-1000 ($499, shipped) offers excellent performance and is the best value.

A couple more options include:
- Rythmik LV12R ($589 + shipping) (plenty of output and possibly the most "accurate" / best sounding sub)
- Oulaw LFM-1 Plus ($549 + shipping) (the LFM-1 EX's well-rated "little brother")

What would you do?

Say no more, suck up the added to your already stated budget of up to $800.00 and buy the XS15 as personally I like what room gain does with smaller sealed subs.

In the case of subwoofers, more is better.

As basshead51 suggested, an XS-15b is a valid price compromise.

The XS-15 would just squeaks the budget with the XV going $50 over.. which is not a big deal just trying to avoid the trap well just a little bit more.. well just a little bit more...

The XS is tempting but I have never used a sealed sub or know anyone with one so I am not sure of the differences really.

Would one of the XS/XV options be an upgrade to the Outlaw LFM -EX? Is Rythmik just a better value or does it perform as well?

I'm partial to Rythmik since I have the FV15 and it's just one awesome sub. In your case, which was mine last year, you have to go by your heart, and just do it. I looked at the now defunct Epic subs, Outlaw, HSU and even Paradigm. After watching the shootout I went with the Rythmik. And Brian is one top notch guy to deal with.

I think we ought to start these threads out by clarifying just how big are you really able/willing to go and how much are you really willing to spend? wink.gif

There is also Hsu, the VTF3 is right on your budget and has the most features and also possibly the deepest extension from all these subs, at least on par with the XV15 if not better. It has big output, on the level of the Outlaw EX and better deep bass performance. The VTF2 is also a great sub, at the moment it is $600 shipped, which makes it a terrific bang for the buck. It will have output on the level of the Outlaw LFM-1 Plus and Rythmik LV12r, and is a bit more feature rich than either.

The XV-15 would be my absolute top dollar.. I can skip a few lunches out to avoid trouble from the wife. ($850 w/ Tax)

Size/Weight is not important, I like the look of the Outlaw as it just looks impressive. Hard to find many photos of the newer XV/XS or the Rythmik (w/grill etc) to get a good size idea.

Looked at a few of the higher dollar options but I think any of the options in my budget will blow me away.

The most enigmatic of sound reproduction is the subwoofer section so in my opinion, the best tacking is is to buy the best subwoofer one can afford, learn how to measure and properly integrate the subwoofer into their sound system and then add to their subwoofer system as money allows.

Well, I decided to jump on a Power Sound Audio XV15. I was in the process of finding the e-mail for them to ask about what difference the base makes when they e-mailed thanking me for the order. (Yes I ordered.. then asked.)

After e-mailing them back with my question and getting a response in no time at all I am extremely happy so far! They even suggested to save a few bucks the XS15 may even work out okay, but I think I will stick with the ported XV15.

That kind of thing makes you proud to support a company in your own state, it is sad that this is the exception and not the norm these days but if the sub is half as good as the customer service this far I can't wait!

While I can't speak to the Sub yet, so far the people are great! (Big thanks to Tom!)

Well I lied after e-mailing back and forth on more specifics and listening habits etc I went with the XS15.

I can't say enough positive about Tom and Power Sound Audio. It looks like it will go out Tuesday and be here Wednesday, which works out great! Downside of being in the same state is Tax.. plus side fast transit times :P

I will be sure to post thoughts etc as I get it setup and how it goes getting it dialed in. Going from at current no sub to this I am sure will blow my socks off.
