So Today its my Birthday and My parents like to, as usual, surprise me and spend alot of money.
I woke up to find out in the lounge a massive SVS Box from Mum and Dad!
I almost passed out i was overwhelmed!
See i was looking on going with the Pb1000 but dad auditioned this subwoofer at The cable company

I cannot believe how good this subwoofer is! its a budget subwoofer only in price point not in performance.
It Plays deeper than my Fathers SuBsonic XS1 MK2. The quality is almost the same (subsonic is more musical)

This is a great subwoofer, a true performer.
I love it i am now a Dedicated SVS buyer from now on!

Congrats on the sub.

Though I don't think anyone would consider it's a "budget subwoofer". Most people would love to be able to afford this "budget subwoofer".

I would consider it a Budget subwoofer for any Home theatre. But as i said before, only in price point, not in performance.
This subwoofer out performs many subs under $1800

^ Lol.

Unfortunately no it does not out perform many subs under 1800.00. I can think of quite a few other Internet Direct subs that will hand it its ass. That being said Congrats!! The PB12NSD is a great sub no doubt. smile.gif

There are probably quite a few $1800 subs it does outperform. Over-priced token efforts from hi-fi speaker companies like B&W, Dynaudio, Dali, and so on. I find REL to be a horrendeous value as well. They will all slap a 10" or 12" into a box with a 500 watt amp, give it a high Qts tune to like 35 hz with oodles of distortion ("it's musical!"), give it ten coats of lacquer, and charge $2k for it. There are a few speaker companies that take subwoofers seriously, but not many. Paradigm and ML have some decent but pricey subs. Klipsch has a few worthwhile subs too.

Am I the only one who doesn't think this sub should be considered a "budget subwoofer"? Ha. Maybe I am. I know plenty of working adults who would love to be able to afford an $800 subwoofer.

As for outperforming most subs under $1800..yeah.

Nope, I wouldn't call it a "budget sub" either. $300, $400, $500 starts to be expensive for a "nice to have" item like a subwoofer. One you get to almost $800, that's not "budget" anymore.

IMO, and YMMV. smile.gif

The PB12 NSD does outperform the Axiom EP600 subwoofer at $1890.

Svs pb12 nsd
400 watts
18hz

Subsonic Xs1 Mk2
250 watts
22hz

Specs and watts aren't everything, but I'd take the Svs for performance.
Musicality can be subjective, and room dependent.

Ok,
i went to elite electronics in aus and had a listen to the svs pb13 ulra.
One word
wow
its seriously a great subwoofer for 2k.
I did this because i wanted to get the difference between my subsonic xs1 and the svs sub

Differences:
the svs can go deeper that the subsonic xs1 and doesnt have as loud port noise as the subsonic
the svs is still heavy
subsonic is compact

Now, im looking into either subsonic xs2 or svs sb-12nsd

Sounds like you experienced some port noise with the 13 Ultra in your other thread. Kind of scratching my head on that!? I know you like your SS but ah.. well the Ultra driver alone weighs as much as the SS. wink.gif

IN conclusion:
THe SVS PB12 NSD is a MOVIE subwoofer worth its money
The SuBsonic XS1 MK2 is a MUSICAL and movie subwoofer easily worth its money

The SuBsonic is much more efficient

Just a quickie,
The Peerless XXLS 12 Driver says 175 watts rms and the SVS Subwoofer is 400 watts rms (which uses the peerless)
Is the 175 Watt a reading of the lowest power it can take? or is an actual power rating. are these sledge amplifiers feeding the drivers too much power????

It can take less than the 175w. That rating is just the continuous power rating. Peak/ max is just that in short burst. You can run it with less than the 175w, it's just your reference for not over powering it.

they have all the specs worked out. I would not worry about it as the design is a functioning and proven design.

Great gift from the parents! Enjoy it.

But listening to or owning two subs hardly qualifies one as a expert on the topic.

Im not an expert i never said that.
I have heard most of rels subwoofers (When i worked at audio trends)
And yes they are giant blocks of furniture with lesser performance advantages.
As far as im aware, the SVS PB12 NSD is not the better sub for music between the xs1 and that. it is more so a movie sub.
The XS1 just sounds a heap cleaner with Music ( and its darn good with war of the worlds)

Love my PB12 NSD wouldnt trade it for any subwoofer in the same price range.

Ill probably go for a second one in my little 14x14 foot room
