i am looking at the bic f12 sub on amazon to replace my broken sub. i am a novice and a lot of people in the reviews said when hooking up from the sub out to the sub in (lfe) connection on this sub i should set the subwoofer's crossover frequency as high as you can and let your receiver handle the crossover frequency. does this mean set the crossover on the sub to 200hz and then set crossover to say 60-100, whatever sounds best, in my vsx-521k? i just wanted to make sure this would be easy to hook up and configure since this sub has a lfe connection.

thanks

If you flip the "Receiver Type" switch on the back of the sub to "Digital 5.1 ... ", it disables the crossover (actually a low-pass filter, or LPF) on the sub, so you don't need to max it out.

Once you've run your AVR's MCACC room-correction program, you can tweak the crossover - and speaker- and subwoofer-level settings - as required/desired through your AVR's speaker set-up menu.

According to pg. 3 of the owner's manual (PDF), connecting to the "LFE IN" input automatically bypasses the sub's LPF.

Thanks. Now i just have to make my final decision. i have read a lot about both of these subs (good and bad) but they seem to be pretty popular for this price range.

In my opinion and personal experience for budget subs, I would recommend the Klipsch RW-12D sold at newegg.com. Specially when it is on sale for $279.99 shipped (+ sales tax if you are in CA). I was going to buy a PSA, but due to my fiancee and I getting married, this wasn't possible anymore. I ended up buying a 2nd RW-12D, and it sounds pretty awesome. I am sure with dual PSA's it would sound super duper awesomeness, but can't afford that at this moment.

Here's a pic of my front set up. I apologize for the dirty carpet, but 2 kids, 2 dogs, and 1 cat kind of makes it hard to keep it clean lol biggrin.gif

i ended up getting the Bic F12 for around 170 from Amazon. It sounds really good but sometimes it stays red and doesnt seem to flip to green (on) right away. i have read this from other people but would this be because my auto MCACC set it to -8 and i have the sub volume on 3.5.
