Price range?
Size of room?
Near field placement?

I own a pair of Audioengine Bamboo A5s and I have them paired with an Emotiva Ultra 10 sealed sub (discontinued) in my 15x11 bedroom. It sounds great overall. I also temporarily had them paired with a Dayton Sub-1000 and they performed really will with the A5s too IMO.

Overall I am very happy with them. I love the connectivity and overall design of them. They sound great without a sub though I prefer my Jamos for critical listening. I wish that the line (sub) output was variable and that there was a way to high pass the bass drivers in the A5s for more headroom. The A5s will run out of steam before the sub in most cases due to the sub only playing from 55hz down.

I also have a Blu-ray player hooked up to them running through a Audioengine D1 for a mini bedroom theater that sounds much better than any sound bar IMO.

Yamaha YST-SW216

Can get this little mean bastard on Amazon for about $120 and it's eligible for free shipping.

It's not ideal for music, but it's fantastic for movies and gaming.

Not "muddy" or "boomy" at all. Very, VERY tight sounding little sub.

Highly recommend it.

The dayton sub's are very well reviewed for the price. Get the sub 1200 if you've got the space for it.
There was a thread started awhile back where the op was in a similar situation to yours.
They were considering an Svs but ended up with an Energy Power sub at the <100$ sale price.
Here's the thread and the op's review:
http://www.avsforum.com/t/1477000/my-experience-with-the-energy-power-10

There is also an Energy Power 12.

Not very high on output as a 100 watt 8", but the Pioneer SW-8MK2 is $89 on Amazon at the moment. Lot of people have expressed that the sound is very good for it's size/price.

Your questions are answered: Speaker FAQ

Is the Mk2 a revised version of this sub? Is it the same sub that Archea reviewed a while back using Omni Mic?

Yep. A (supposedly) revised version of the one Archaea reviewed (although I wonder if they just made some minor changes to sell it with the series 2 speaker set). Seems like a good deal for $90 smile.gif

Heck why not, especially if used near field. With a budget at or under $150, there are a few nice choices ranging from 8" to 12" subs.

Not sure if this sub would work in this case due to the fixed 100hz crossover.

For music, in a small room, the Energy Power 10 is excellent. I picked it up for $69 recently after returning the $279 Klipsh RW-12d.

My experience here.

Roughly every weekend and occasionally in between.
