I have 2 Energy s10.3 subs and 1 Energy s12.3 sub. Sony STR-DN1030 is my AVR which has 2 pre-outs and I have a splitter on the s10.3s (on pre-out 2).

Is it best to calibrate one sub at a time or all 3? I ran all 3 and it doesn't seem to be as good as when I just had 1 sub connected and calibrated. Any advice or recommendations would be appreciated.

That’s why it’s generally a bad idea to try to get dual or three differently tuned subs to work together. It is hard enough getting three like subs placed correctly. Anyway you want to calibrate each individually. Maybe start off with calibrating each of them at –6 and see what your sum is with the three running together. I would keep low expectations though.

Thanks. I liked the one s12.3 slightly better than the dual s10.3's. I guess I will sell the 2 s10.3's if I can't get some improvement. I did notice that the AVR showed -10 after calibration. I need to turn the volume down a bit before trying again.

I will try recalibrating each one separately.

I heard the more subs the better, but I guess it's different if they are slightly different in their response. I picked up the s12.3 essentially free in a speaker deal, that's why I have an extra one...

Thanks again.

Well....I figured out the issue - my avr somehow got set to amp+tv on the hdmi out so I was only getting lpcm 48hz for movies. Not sure how that happened...

When I switched it to AMP only, I got truehd etc...I did also turn to the volume down on the subs and the calibration came out to -6.

It sounds pretty amazing now and really powerful. The subs are similar so that probably helps (same manufacturer and same line).

The good news there is that I could probably get $700 for all 3 I have and get a super sub, with limited out of pocket cost....Wait - I have already thought about how to upgrade subconsciously?..I am bad....really bad.....smile.gif

svs pb1000 originally but now with my s12.3 I might "need" 2 or go to 15".

I see.. yeah it can be a real dilemma on what to upgrade to. One suggestion I would make is to go as much as possible, it will $help in the long-run. One sometimes thinks if he goes with this or that it’ll be the end of it, but sometimes that’s not the case. What size room are you in and are there any openings?

Not upgrading for a while. 22x15x7 finished basement with open hallway leading out of the back side of the room. These subs do a good job. Not into the wall rattling but deep tight bass for music and movies. I will probably go to a 15" PSA or SVS or HSU down the road. I have Energy RC70's and they are really incredible for both music and movies. Plenty of power.

My next upgrade would be a 120" screen and projector, most likely. I have a 4 year old 52" LCD Samsung right now, which is really good IMHO but a larger screen size would be a huge improvement.
