Tons of 30-50 HZ stuff but not much deep extension or quality in the bass.
For reference we watched a double bill yesterday of Pacific Rim and
Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol
No contest – MI was better track in every category, but to be fair
MI is one of the better soundtracks available.
What is interesting on the disc is the option of 5.1 or 7.1
DTSMA track
Going to view the 5.1 track and see if can pick up any differences
In the mix

Please do GPBURNS!!!...very keen to know if there is a difference between the two or even a lossy soundtrack.

Im seriously getting sick of this filtered soundtrack crap. They can sound, but good lately all the new releases soundtracks are really sucking!

I've heard reviews that sound like that recently but don't measure up. If they confirm that the 5.1 is the unneutered theatrically true one, then I'd purchase it in a heartbeat.

5-20,25,30,35 or so on, when it comes to bass its all bass at the end of the day , why would less than an octave stop you from buying a movie you wanted to buy. All your really doing is just ignoring the raw majority of the bass that is still felt and heard in the movie. I'm in as long as its clean, I can crank it and run the sub hot and grin from ear to ear enjoying a giant fighting robot flick cool.gif

im not sure you can crank near field mixes that are mixed at lower levels and expect clean results at reference - or am I missing something?

Thanks for the report. Is the 30-50hz bass loud at least? Curious to hear your thoughts on the 5.1 track in relation to the 7.1 after you listen to it. Is the surround work pretty aggressive?

JVC 3D: Been there, done that, bought a DLP

Have you had a chance to view "Oz" ? and if so what did you think of the sound. Its probably the best example of a nearfield mix that I would consider to have reference level playback without filtering.

Hellboy 2 is a much better example imo. Oz I couldn't get through the harshness in the 7.1 clip so I had to switch to the 5.1 mix and then I was really pleased - hellboy 2 I could keep cranked up on the 7.1 nearfield mix though; if you haven't had a chance to run through that one I strongly recommend it wink.gif

I did a recent viewing of HB2 and love it, but I found no harshness in Oz at all, infact it had some of the best dialog of any recent movie I've heard, which is one of many notable traits it has, but of course we all have our taste smile.gif

Agreed of course. My wife likes dynamic range compression, but I don't. To each their own of course.

it looks like there's a lossless 5.1 track on this. Fingers crossed.
