I just got a new sub for my home theater system.
vtf 3-mk4. Whats the best setting? I m kinda lost with different options, this sub is setup with a pioneer 1121-k mcacc. I haven't ran mcacc full auto yet.

It says use this for low to moderate volume
and use this for deepest bass and loud playback. etc also where do i set the q controls? The sub looks great but it's kinda to advance for what i was used to befor just plug and play. can some ine point me to the right direction?.

mostly useing for movies and gaming.

I'd start with the owner's manual (PDF). Pages 5 and 6 look pretty informative. smile.gif

Yeah, I went from a STF2 to a VTF3, it was a huge step up, both in performance and sheer size.

Just a quick question.

I've been using the default settings where i used it to calibrate with (mcacc full auto) according to manual,

If i change the variable tuning and Q control from 7 to 5 with two ports open etc do i have to re-run auto mcacc or it won't matter?..  By the way i played with the music on that disk that hsu research put in and i love it when it got down to 16 hz,  my walls were vibrating lOl. Having to much fun with the vtf 3 mk4.

This weekend i'll watch some blu rays, probably saving private ryan. biggrin.gif

I wouldn't recalibrate. Insofar as MCACC equalizes the bass, it will be as flat as MCACC can get it at the setting you originally calibrated it on. After that point, I would just set it to where you think it sounds best. For many people, what sounds best isn't actually a flat response, a lot of us like to run the bass hot.

Congrats on the new sub! How do you like the HB-1’s? I’m looking to replace my speaker’s with the Hsu 5.0 package in the near future. They’ll go great with my VTF-15H. Also, what stands are you using? I'll need taller ones to go with the HB-1's.

Thanks Tom C.

The hsu HB 1 mk 2 sounds fantastic, i had those for awhile. They have great off axis response and very good sound stage. They don't sound bright at all more like balance.

i got those 5 years ago from stands and mounts company i believe they still have them instock http://www.standsandmounts.com/speakerstands.aspx

can some one point me to the right direction? I v been trying for the last five days getting this vtf 3 mk4 to sound right. The sub sounds quiet, either im doing some thing wrong or mcacc calibration software. I set sub to 75 db set two ports open eq 2 q control 5. gain ten o clock position. I am really giving it up on the sub and drive to hsu research and exchange it for some thing else. Funny thing is that my older hsu vtf 1 sounds ten times better with loud lows etc. i try d different port modes and no different in output. :/

I’m not familiar with MCACC, so I don’t know how much I can be of help. Plus, I’m doing this without the benefit of my morning coffee. I have a Denon, but they should be similar in some respects.

After you run MCACC you shouldn’t change anything. You defeat the purpose of the auto cal. Leave the sub level where it is.

Check the crossover switch. Make sure that it is set to out.

Where did you receiver set the crossover at? If it’s less that 80Hz raise it to 80.

I’m also wondering if you may have some expectations that could be disappointing you. Like picture quality, audio quality will vary. Some soundtracks/music have awesome bass, others don’t have any. The rest fall somewhere in between. Use source material that has really good bass to test with. Here is a list of movies with good bass to use: http://www.avsforum.com/t/1333462/the-new-master-list-of-bass-in-movies-with-frequency-charts .

Also, draw up a map of your room layout with dimensions and post it. There are a lot of knowledgeable people here who can make some recommendations on sub placement that will make a significant difference.

You can also contact the Hsu tech support at techsupport@hsuresearch.com .

Hope that I’ve been of some help.

I should probably update on my original post. I got my new sub working, and its sounding awesome!.
Watched the avengers yesterday, and it was doing its job. I guess tweaking and adjusting takes time. Thanks to shadyJ and hsu research team. They sure have awesome customer service..

Glad to hear you are enjoying your sub. Your problem was a strange one, it kind of surprised me. Sorry I couldn't be helpful on that one.
