looking at one locally, the guy wants $2,000 (the MSRP on a new one is $1,999), I see used ones on forums and Ebay for 875-950...what do u think is "fair"? its about a year old (according to the seller).....I know its painful selling HiFI as we lose soooo much value....I feel for the guy, but I want to make sure its worth it vs just buying a new 13 or a new 12........I was thinking 900-1200 would be the fair price...thoughts?

My SetUp:

KEF Q900(fronts),
KEF Q55(Rears),
KEF Q600C(Center).

IMO:
- $2,000 for a one-year-old Ultra is unrealistic.
- The $875-$950 Ultras are likely older / higher mileage and/or in less than mint condition.
- $900-$1,200 is too low.

Assuming...
- the unit is in mint condition and in perfect working order; and
- the balance of SVS' unconditional 5-year warranty applies,
...I'd say somewhere in the $1,600-$1,800 range is fair.

1600-1800, I'll buy a new one and wont deal with risks of abuse though....SVS does offer a good sale every once in a while and also gives a "loyal" customer special at times.....the 875 on Ebay are 2 years old....

BTW, LOVE your set up...graet pics:)

Before buying new you should at least consider looking into whether:
- balance of warranty applies;
- the sub is cosmetically mint and 100% operational; and
- you can get the buyer down to $1,600.

Becase, IMO, $1,600 for a mint-condition, perfectly working PB13-Ultra with balance of warranty is a pretty good deal. cool.gif

YMMV, of course. smile.gif

Why would the seller expect anyone to pay him $2000 for a one year old sub when you can order a brand new from the factory full warranty in the box for the same price?

I wouldn't give him more than $1400-1500, one year old in mint condition. Flash him 14 or 15 Benjamins, I'll bet he'll take it. If he doesn't he's a fool.

Dunno about rule of thumb, but if I was looking a sub that was essentially as good as knew - and with four years of warranty left on it - and I could get it for $400 less than new (or ~20% off), I'd be all over it.

But it's all subjective. Maybe the guy will take $1,200, or maybe he'll take $1,500. I guess it doesn't hurt to ask.

When they have them on hand,"B" stock is $1699:

How much is a year extra of warranty worth to you? How much is a 45 day home trial worth?

And is he willing to part with it for that difference?

that b-stock one is unavailable and also has cosmetic damage. obviously you can offer him whatever you want to offer him. if i was selling, i certainly wouldn't accept $1200.

well...the ones who own one dont want to think of the day they will need to sell it and want it valued at as high as they can (makes total sense), in reality though, if a factory B is 1699 with full warranty delivered....than what grounds are there for anything more than 1200-1300 cash? anyways, the seller is standing grounds at 1800....thats unrealistic and I will prob have to pass.........

You can order a brand new Rythmik FV15HP for about $1440 delivered to you. I have one and the review is on DataBass (Josh Ricci) link below. For the money its comparable to the Ultra and the kicker is Brian Ding who is Rythmik , an electrical engineer, has impeccable warranty and service. Brian is as good as it gets in the business. I have purchased 2 subs from Brian, my 1st was an F15.

I love the FV15HP but the warranty is far from impeccable at 2yr on the amp...however it is a kick ass sub and probably what I would buy in the 1400-2000 price range of subs.

Brian has on two occasions I know of traveled to purchaser's homes to help dial in or troubleshoot a sub problem. This guy enjoys what he does and goes the extra mile. My F15 was lost to a flood last August, Brian took great care of me second time around. And no I'm not related to or affiliated with Rythmik. Oh and Brian doesn't sell B stock as brand new. The only drawback is its like a 2 or 3 man shop, sometimes you have to wait a bit.

Ya but I garentee its a solid amp. Look at the jl fathom a 4k dollar sub and they only warrenty the amp for 3 years. I wouldn't let that warrenty be the deal breaker by any means

Not just electronics.... Most used items in general. Half of current new item price. If your used gear is in mint you should be able to get a bit more.

Electronics are different though. There are so many unknowns when buying used electronics. Be it audio gear or an electronic fuel gauge.

I just bought a used amp, sub, and speakers for my gym. It all works great 99.7 % of the time. The other .3% the remote doesn't work. Then it will, then it won't.

It would take good savings to even get me started thinking about dropping 2k on an audio amplifier without an existing warranty.

I never said it would be a deal breaker nor was the amp not solid. I said the warranty is far from impeccable. 2yrs is not very good for a high end piece of audio equipment. Then I believe I mentioned that if I was sub shopping in the 1400-2k price range I would still buy a FV15HP.

Mint condition, I'd say $1500. Figure $400 worth of depreciation (equal distribution over 5 years of warranty) and another $100 since it'd be a giant PITA to go to someones house and pick up a 155 pound sub.

yea I agree...SVS subs tend to hold a decen resale especially when they still have a warranty.

Heck, I sold ~4-5 year old PB10-NSD for about half of what I paid for the thing, and the buyer was happy to take it off my hands biggrin.gif
