My newly purchased pioneer sw-8mk2 is emiting a very low humming noise when idle. I can only hear it if I am about a foot away from the device. It emits this sound even when its not connected to my receiver and only the power cord is plugged in. The sound goes away when I disconnect power. I've been doing some reading and apparently its predecesor displayed the same behavior. Can any sw-8mk2 owners confirm that their unit emits this same humming noise? Again, its very low and you practically have to press your ear against the units front panel.

I have noticed that with my SW-8 (non-MK2) pair.

Yeah, I've read that the humming noise is present in the sw8. What I want to know is if it's normal on the sw-8mk2. Apparently both units are very similar, so the sound migh be normal. I am still under thr 30 day return period.

Any other SW-8MK2 owners out there that can share their experience with the humming sound?

Had the same sub and had the same hum. I also had a def tech sub that did the same thing, don't own either now.

Did you get rid of them because of the hum or was it performance related? For what its worth, I purchased another one just to see if the issue was specific to my sub. The newly purchased sub also emits the same hum. I did notice that the hum is only present when the sub is not receiving a signal.

I got rid of the pioneer because of the hum, and the def tech mainly because of the auto on not working properly, and also the hum. In the pioneers behalf, it had the best auto on feature of any sub I ever had. It would come on at any level and remain on no matter how low the volume would get.

Hmm, my SW-8 Mk1 is dead silent. The power switch has always been in the "On" position, but other than that it's not like I'm doing anything special. Wonder if they are highly susceptible to power mains noise or something.

I completely agree that the auto on feature is spot on. What I've noticed is that the hum goes away as soon as it gets a signal. For an 8 inch sub, this thing sounds pretty clean and has just enough thump. Blends very well with the rest of my Andrew Jones Pioneer speakers. I'm kicking myself for not getting a second one when it was on sale for $69.99 a couple of weeks ago on newegg.com.

My mk2 emits the hum regardless of the switch position. Same with the second unit I bought for testing.

Yeah it seems my new Mk2 has it too...but it's so low (and the ambient noise in the room is just high enough) that I literally had to put my ear up against the port to hear it. Definitely sounds like it's coming from the amp. Unit was purchased about a month ago (brand new), used regularly but lovingly in that time. Manufacture date says Dec '12.

This certainly doesn't affect my high opinion of this sub though. In fact, if I see a new one for less than $100 I'll probably pick up another as well.

Newegg and Amazon had it for $79.99 on August 3rd. Still kicking myself for not pulling the trigger.

Yup, me too...I waited a day too long to decide, and was in a foul mood all day when I realized it lol.
