I recently upgraded my sub to an svs pb13 ultra and calibrated it using rew. I had no idea what I was missing! Only watched a couple of movies with it calibrated but the muddy, one note bass is gone. I have all intentions to go back through my library as I'm sure I'll hear things I've never heard in my movies before. If you are into this hobby but don't have the ability to hear a properly calibrated audio system, I highly recommend that you read through the forums, ask questions, and get your system rockin!

Audio: Emotiva XMC-1 Processor / Emotiva XPA-7 Gen 3 amp
Speakers: Triad Silver LCR (5), Triad Bronze LCR (2 rear), SVS PB13 Ultra sub
Video: Epson 5025 projector / Darbee Darblet / 98" 16:9 Seymour AV UF
Sources: Oppo 103 / Chromecast / Apple TV / Audio Technica LP-120 TT

Congrats. The PB13 is a mighty fine sub and it certainly warrants you checking out your movie collection again!

I have seen popalocks setup and it is very impressive, but I'm sure it is just too much bass for me.

I had a similar experience when I got my Velodyne SMS-1 and then my Hsu VTF-15H. What a world of difference!

Just wondering, what did you calibrate it with? REW is for measuring. Do you have an EQ, a basic PEQ on the sub amp, or did you just use REW to measure and find the best location for smoothest/flattest response at your listening position?

Depending on how your room acoustics are, you could potentially unlock another layer of amazing with some bass traps, to make the bass clearer and tighter. You can see this in REW with the waterfall type graphs where it shows the decay.

Plus some EQ if you have more than +/- 4db swings under 100Hz. smile.gif

There's no such thing. You can have better bass by having multiple subs with increased headroom and reduced nulls and peaks....something hard for a single sub, even a nice potent one like yours, to achieve.

Lovin, what's going on man! The guy just bought his first major sub and is really enjoying it. I’m no post cop so you can do as you want, but I would suggest taking a breath and stepping back. confused.gif

^^ -1 We were all newb at one time. The more we learn, the more we learn we don’t know. This is no time to be suggesting more subs and especially the way you’re going about it. You mention popalock, do you think he would wade in here from the get-go and posting in the style you’re posting? I would say not noticing his posting style.

Sorry to the OP for stepping in like this, but this needs to stop pronto.

No, you're absolutely right. Apologies to Draden if he took my comments offensively at all....

I did often ignore the multiple sub thing as a newb, tho, and regret it now.

I think maybe you sort of got started and it went one longer than what you intended. Knowing your posting style, that’s the way I’m going to look at it anyway. cool.gif
