Seeing the members that can hit Reference Level of 115 db shows just how difficult can be and that it takes multiple subs. Audioholic had a good articles on sub woofer Reference Level.

Reference Level (dB) from 31.5Hz to 63 Hz with no greater than -6 dB @ 25 Hz

This somewhat easier to achieve since 31.5 Hz is the lower limit. Even at 31.5 Hz this is a challenge for many HT's. Great work Dominguez1 for a fun and imformative thread.

You should take an uneq'd response before and after for direct comparison with same power level.

Notnyt, the reason I have the same response is because my ports are tuned too low to have an effect, 3.5hz! Making more shorter ports.

Very cool bth!

Is it hard to add a driver to those boxes? Also, is there a person sitting down in a chair you can throw in there? I imagine creating an image like the "Panasonic?" image where the guy is sitting in the chair with his hair/clothes being blown by sound.

You could set up the subs so it surrounded him, or something like that...

He moved to the middle east before finishing his 32 SI-18 build, so it might be 2.5 years before he completes that one...

It is not hard hitting reference at 10hz guys, you are forgetting room gain! When I am done my ground plane for 5 hz will be 113 dBs and 128 dBs for 6 hz. That is without room gain which I have lots! 10 hz will be 125 dBs.

I still think that everyone with 16 or more SI-18's should buy a TermLab.
Then we'd be able to compare our scores until we reach 183db. Come on people!!!

This is 97db @ 7hz and 112db @ 16hz on my TermLab. Look at the distance to the mic and the excursion!!!!!

We all need to use the same mic. This is the same meter that is used in all of the car-audio competitions nation-wide/world-wide, so it seemed like a good choice to standardize upon.

For example, sebastion1029 has a ULF score of 786 (4 Star) with his 3 submersives in his 3300cf room at an estimated 107.7db at 10hz.

Miniht has a ULF score of 301 (4.5 Star) with his single Cap S2 in his 842cf room at an estimated 104.1db at 10hz.

sebastion has more raw firepower, but when you factor in room based on his ULF score, miniht will likely have more raw output in reality.
Oh wow, sorry Dom. I should have updated a while ago. I have dual S2's mutually coupled in that room now

Also, thanks for all the effort you've put in to this thread! One of my favorite threads on AVS.

I just ordered 4 SI 18ht's for the two rear enclosures. I will tune them to 11hz. Should add about 16 SI's at 10hz when done. I am still playing around with the ports up front, I should end up with a 7hz tune or 14hz if done incorrectly.

Ok pop.. I reconnected my speakers today. And thought I play with REW more since my new speakers don't arrive till Thursday. Anyway, I still got that null at 100. I think its a phase issue since that is where I cross the subs at. I tried playing around with the distance settings but still the same. Im also having another at around 40. And I can't get rid of it even with EQ. Hopefully when my new speakers come in I can have more to work with. BTW, how do I do sweep with to speakers and subs with REW. Like L/R with REW? Sorry if im missing it in the program. But I cant find it..
Nice extension you got there...welcome to the 5hz club. I'll get you updated on the next update.

For that size room, wouldn't everything be mutually coupled! Congrats on the pair!

Curious, what are the dimensions of your room? Care to share a picture?

Here's your updated ULF Card:

Very impressive...

Nice MK...when do you expect the drivers in?

I was thinking about your IB Port issue: essentially, is your room the box making it a lower tune (3.5hz) or is the IB area the box for the 7hz tune.

Could you test to see where puffs of air from the port are occurring? IOW, if air is being pushed out into the IB area, your room would be the box? Or if air was being pushed into your room, the IB area would be the box?

Not sure if that test would work or not though...

Inside a ported box, is there a suction effect so that air also moves into the box? I dunno...

What do you mean you removed the ports?

How about play a 3 hz sine wave and a 7 hz sine wave and hold a napkin up to the port and see if it is blowing in the room or out of it?

I removed the ports, because it was a 3.5 hz tune. I still have to measure because the nano has a new bass management portion which I have to read about. I had to erase the current settings.

If you have no ports, but haven't gone back to sealed, then what are you running?

Wouldn't removing the ports by default mean you're back to a sealed alignment?

I am messing with stuff, I have two holes in the wall without ports. Just the thickness of the baffle wall. A very short port and right now without any adjustments the bass is massive. I have not run sweeps yet, coming soon. I am messing around with the new bass management on the nano as well.

Unless you can, in fact, take it that loud and you are just using the first bolded phrase as a hyperbole (i.e. - Foundation Cracking, etc...).

Sooooo...if you "can't take it that loud," why would you add more? Smoothing? Going to send the SI's your surround signal vs the LFE channel?

Because we are crazy! I needed to build stands for the surrounds to lift them to the ceiling(40x20x20 surrounds). I figured why not make them big and add subs. I don't need more bass, hell, I have not needed more since going DIY but I have been chasing the low end and my limit is my gear for that. With a small room you get room gain but close that opening you had and the room gets filled with pressure really fast and at about 130 dBs the ears plug in my room. I can get relief by opening the doors which I do when the house is empty(rarity).

I also think that ported nearfield will take the tactile feedback up another notch as well!
