Sweeps after eq

I will now seal up the wall again and run the same sweeps and see which compresses sooner.

When you run sweeps on the ported setup, are you getting air flow through the port? If so, what direction? Into the IB area or into your room?

I don't know, I will check later. Maybe my IB was never truly sealed and was a 7hz ported system with an inductance peak? Maybe it was leaking around the speakers? Now I want to seal up the wall so good just to see. I basically have two 12 inch round holes in my wall and the response did not change from no holes or 24 inch long ports, why so similar? Where are my design experts?

BTW, the raw responses were done at 20 dB below reference so if it was flat it would have been at 95 dBs and the speakers at 85 dBs.

I let REW EQ my system, I picked nanoavr as the EQ and wanted to EQ 10-120hz at 105 dBs from the raw response and the sweeps graph is the response it came up with. I had to turn down the sub channel 10 dBs still as it was at 20 dBs below reference.

I was looking for info of the Dayton Ultimax in the Chase SS 18.2 and VS 18.1 box. What are the yellow and orange graphs. Is one of the sealed boxes the small 18.1 box They are hard to see due to the size. Thanks for the graph.

Basically the ultimax will look similar to the SI except the SI will have 2-3 dBs more output above 40hz. The ultimax in the ported box will have around 12 dBs more output at 16 and 20hz. The other sim was comparing to a sealed SI 18.

Ok I ran a couple demos and even though the response is the same running it like this has more tactile feel during certain scenes. Well, much more than with the 24 inch long ports. Still testing though so nothing definitive.

Thanks for the sims of the ultimax MK!

I'll update the estimated chart in the next round. Compared to the SI, it looks to be the same at 20hz, and then 1db up below that.

Derrick, I'll update your ULF Card and post back in the next day or so. Assuming you have the appropriate power to produce that output, it should be a pretty significant update from a ULF perspective.

Thanks gentelmen. I wish it was a way of knowing the VS 1 ultimax mod with the 16 Hz tune box that I use. This should give me a little more output under 16 Hz. It was a fun project and I have plenty of power. Each diver is on a separate I Nuke amp channel. Two I Nuke 6000's and two I Nuke 3000's.

Looks like this should be an upgrade in the 10-20 Hz range from the graphs.

Maybe 12 hz in room is possible, the sim is good to 14hz where the driver goes past x-max and way over under that.

Is that the factory Xmax of 22? The Xmax on the Dayton subs have been on the conservative side. Either way it was great tonight watching demo clips. Definitely pushing more are in the room than before. I really appreciate your help getting this info.

Data-bass puts the vs.1 at a 19hz tune. Did you do something to the box to tune it lower?

When I got the VS 18.1 Craig had been working on the new Chane subs. One of the things he did was close off 1/3 of the slot vent, this effectively lower the tune to 16 Hz. I have the vent 1/3 plug and no HPF required. So, the VS 18.1 goes a little lower. In the next day or two I will do a FR of the MLP.

Yes it is listed as a 22 mm x-max and the winisd file has the same. We can't change anything until proven more or less by Ricci. If it has more you are probably looking at 1-2 dBs more.

I seem to recall a post by DaytonaAudioRory saying that it was rated at 22mm xmax but that it was really 25mm xmax. I can't see it having anymore then that if Rory says its 25mm.

Well my drivers model about 3 dBs more than the SI at 30mm and made for IB. So a driver with 25mm will be about 1.5 dBs more.

My 4 SI 18's arrive today. I get back on Friday and will play around this weekend. The output from 4 ported 18's very close should be close to 8 ported 18's from 15 feet away.

So how much of a difference would there be between the UM18-22 with 25mm xmax compared to the UXL-18 with 34mm xmax?

Got back from a dinner around 10pm tonight and it was a balmy 106 degrees. Not sure what it is at the moment as it's 1:16am.

That said, I'm about to crash in my 66 degree bedroom.

Here is the estimate for the Dayton UM 18-22 and also derrickdj1's Chase VS with UM 18-22:

Here's derrickdj1's old ULF Card with the Chase drivers:

And his new ULF Card:

Nice upgrade! Massive at 16hz; 5.6 SI to 12.4!

Big question...can you tell a difference in ULF?
