Want to add an additional sub to go with my Hsu VTF-2 MK4. Should I go VTF-3 MK4 or jump straight to VTF-15H. - AVS Forum

Hi,

I got a Hsu VTF-2 MK4 a couple years ago, and while it is awesome, I have been forever kicking myself for not going with the VTF-3 MK4 to get down to those 16Hz tones.

I've finally started thinking about actually adding some more bass to my setup, but I'm not sure which route to go.

Here are what I think my options are:

1) Buy VTF-3 MK4 and add it into the setup.

2) Buy VTF-15H and add it into the setup.

3) Sell my VTF-2 MK4 and buy either of the other ones (in case I decide I really can't afford to just buy one)

The rest of my system (I know it's all Polk, but keep in mind this is my first real setup... )

Receiver: Onkyo TX-NR709
Fronts: Polk RTi A3
Center: Polk CSi A6
Surround: Polk RTi 6
Rear: Polk RTi 4

Thanks to whoever bothers to read this! Any advice or other options I haven't thought of are greatly appreciated.

High Five.

I would either add another VTF2, or sell it and get a VTF3 dual drive. A single VTF3 or VTF15h will be a upgrade over a VTF2, but moreso in quantity rather than quality. By going multiple subs, you gain a more even bass sound, and better room coverage.

I would sell it and get a VTF3 dual drive package. The VTF3 is only down 1db @ 16hz to the VTF15, but the 15 has a 3db advantage from 20hz on up. Imo the VTF3 is the best value vs performance in the HSU line up.

Appreciate the replies. I think I'll take the advice and trade up for the VTF-3 dual drive.

I don't see people selling Hsu gear very often, so I'm not sure where to price the old sub. Any ideas?

Thanks again!

being its out of warranty, I would say 300.00 is a fair price.

An mk4 should be able to fetch a bit more than that. The Hsu and SVS subs sell very well on ebay. I think you could get $400 or so for that, maybe a bit more in an auction. I had a STF2 that I bought for 325 and sold a couple years later for 275 on ebay. If it's in good condition, you should be able to get at least 3/4s its value back, at least.
