If these are your only options, I would say SVS but, I hate them both.

I would at the PSA XV-30's, XS-30's or Triax
JTR Captivators
Seaton Submersive HP
Funk Audio (Canada)

Hey Reef! just thought I would stop by and ask why you hate SVS? Don’t get me wrong, this is not a challenging question, just a inquisitive one if you will.

look, I have an pb13 and love it. it's all "I" need. however, with that said if your getting two and money is a plentiful you would be crazy to pass up on jtr or seaton's offerings.

I think trading off aesthetics with performance is not wise if the objective is the best cinema experience.

Me too.. I haven't heard any ID subs period. But going through countless threads here at AVS. The only subs I would buy blindly are Seatons or JTR's. With that said, I ordered quad JTR S2's which would arrive in a couple of weeks..

I am not saying that SV Sound is bad, I just don't care for them. As far as the JL's I think they are way overpriced, way better offerings for that scratch.

Ok fare enough, thanks for answering though. I’m not saying SVS is a end all in any form or matter, I do like them though. I just didn’t get the hate part is all.

When you factor in size, sound quality, finish, and features, JL Audio isn't a bad value proposition. How do you do better without going DIY at that point?

Uh. Svs. Lol

IMO svs is the most refined ID sub company out there. There are others that might give more bang for the buck but svs's tech and refinement are worth the extra money.

I think you got that backwards, we are comparing JL Audio to SVS. JL Audio is more refined and much more expensive.

Really? Have you owned a pb13 ultra? Not Sure what being more expensive has to do with it. Your big on drivers, right? Have you seen the ultra driver?!

The JL is definitely a very well designed product but let's face it. The ultra is a better choice in this instance.

I don't mean to say there are not other IDs out there that are refined. Just that from my experience svs has excellent quality. I have never owned anything from Seaton, Funk, etc. I'm sure they are great as well. I was only extolling the virtues of the ultra.

Not that weight is a tell all about a driver but it does show effort at the very least! The 13-Ultra driver comes in at 50.5 lbs and if one were to compare that to other drivers (including 18”) it would show a little something. I have had 5 Ultras I think and they definitely have their own signature sound/SQ to them.

Thats a heavy driver and I have no doubt the Ultra is great...however being you owned 5 of them at different times tells me they left you wanting more no?

I've had both, loved my PB13 for sure, I got the opportunity to test the F113, it's on another planet in IMHO.

Testing the paradigm Sub1 @ the moment against the JL, it's really good.

When you say on another planet, could you elaborate? Curious to hear the differences...

I always want more but you know I like to play with subs. If I had something like the Triax I would definitely keep it, but I would still be building every now and then. It must be a DNA thing or something. rolleyes.gif

Oh I know you like to play with subs, was just curious why 5 of the same? Its hard to expand your horizons if you keep buying the same sub tongue.gif

or did you have 5 ultras at once?

You have a good point there bass. How did it go?? I had one or dual PB-12U and then decided to try the /2U out or it was the other way around? I bought another house and put together a dedicated theater and went with dual PC-U but I had wanted to build something at the time and that’s the one DIY project I didn’t like. I had or bought a couple 18” mae-x and did a few subs with those. I never will forget selling the U’s a month after I purchased them and Ed saying WTF! biggrin.gif In a sense it’s like picking up a Triax and then selling it a month down the road for no good reason.
