For a dedicated Theater i am building i am considering 2 subwoofer's:

- JL Fathom F113 (x2)
- SVS PB-13 Ultra (x2)

Doesn't matter the cost difference. Between these 2 what is the best for CInema experience?

Tank you

It's one of many sought after id sub in these forums. If you could fit that in your HT.. that will be the last sub you'll ever need. Especially if you go duals..

SVS also have speakers but they are not at the lever of JBL Synthesis 1400 Array, Paradigm Signature S8 or Kef Reference 205/2 for example, are they?

BTW, JTR has subs with a smaller foot print. Seaton also makes solid subs too.

I've noticed JTR is very cheap price compared to other brands. It's not very expensive to make JTR Theater, and maybe it even performs better than the speakers i am considering...however i cannot live with JTR boxes, they are a bit ugly.

If this is a dedicated theater and have an acoustically transparent screen. You won't see the speakers anyway. So get the best sounding speakers you can afford

Have you considered Funk Audio? They can make pretty much any sort of sub you want in any finish you like. You're not limited to the standard models shown on their website.

Cheaper than SVS PB-13 Ultra but very comparable (IMHO) = Rythmik FV15HP. Wouldn't bother with the JL unless I needed a really small sub and had money to burn.

Other top end subs I would look at if I had the budget/space and didn't want to build my own...

JTR Captivator 2400 or S2
Seaton Submersive HP
Funk 18.0
Rythmik F25 - Probably less output than Cap/Subm/Funk but still up there
PSA Triax - Not reviewed yet but an exciting new product nonetheless

You might get more complete/helpful advice if you provided - Size of HTspace, listening preferences (volume, sealed vs ported etc.), budget, size constraints etc.

If money is no issue I would have Nathan at Funk Audio build something Custom. I would go with a design like the Triax but with 3 18's that houses a speaker power amp like the Seaton HP+...which features slave mode to drive another passive unit.

OP if you want a reference home cinema, the front speakers and subs are behind the projector screen and are not seen. In that case JTR OS LFU duals will murder the duals of JL Fathom113 and SVS-PB-13 ultra any day with every shock wave they will belt out.

Even if room acoustics govern placement of one sub in front and one in the back, the front would be behind scree and the rear one behind the seating area.

I told em that earlier in this thread. But the OP said JTR's are ugly boxes. I was just trying to save him from another sub upgrade down the road if incase he wanted more. Well unless the OP gonna do DIY later. But anyway, still, my first choice would be OS or S2 or SubM master/ slave combo..

SVS make great subs, JL makes great subs. Much depends on the size of your room and number of seats. Hard to give any recommendations without further data on room size.

For any kind of 'reference setup' which I assume you are going for with the DataSat processor I'd go for multiples. Minimum 4, 2 front, 2 back. There are VERY good acoustical reasons for doing this.

Dual OS's probably murder is house not just those two other subs....lol

Seriously at one GTG that had dual OS's; those two subs where causing the walls and floors to flex so much it cause the tiles on the floor above to crack along with the grout! eek.gif

To the OP keep in mind that Jeff at JTR does offer custom veneer options for his speakers and subs.

I haven't heard these subs but went through the entire GTG thread. I can imagine what OS can do. JTR OS LFU and Rythmik FV15HP are the only subs I can buy blindly without auditioning them.

OP's desire is to have "Best Cinema Experience" yet he wants looks worthy sub. That ain't possible. JTR OS LFU is ugly as hell but sends the message; "Bring it on.....".
I think trading off aesthetics with performance is not wise if the objective is the best cinema experience.
