Still a pretty good deal. I can only assume the veneered version is so expensive because of the angles and complexity of the enclosure. I think PSA also had to raises prices as their cabinet shop increased their costs.

I noticed that yesterday. I'm surprised the standard finish only increased $200 considering the unexpected cost increase from the new drivers. Tom did say to me some time back, before the new drivers were announced, that they may be able to keep the price lower than anticipated due to strong sales. The $750 premium for wood veneer on the Triax is a bit shocking though. I'm glad I got my order in before the increase. At $3k I was already at my extreme max limit; $3750 would definitely be a no go for me.

I wonder since the Triax has three baffles, if the veneer option costs more to produce than a single baffle unit would with the veneer option. I do know there is most definitely much more labor involved with finishing three baffles. That might be ((some)) of the reason??

Most definitely the Triax would cost more to veneer, and this was reflected in the higher premium than the PowerX models. But to go from $200 to $750 seems extreme. None of the PowerX models had such a drastic increase. I can imagine that the cabinet builder might have felt the Triax cabinet was such a PIA and decided to really bump up the price to make it worthwhile, or perhaps even reduce demand for the wood veneer option. Of course this is pure speculation on my part. wink.gif

Hey josh, did you try measuring them in other locations even places you wouldn't want them to go? I'm saying that because maybe it might help you figure out what exactly the strengths and weaknesses are in the room. What are the dimensions of your room and is it fully enclosed or open into other rooms?

Yes i did try them in another location, and it was worse, i wish i would have measured the same scenes with only 1 XV-30, but sadly i didnt, i got more power with one XV-30 then with 2.

If you have more energy with one vs two, then you have cancellation (null) taking place. Just for giggles, being that they're identical subwoofers, stack the two subwoofer near a corner, rerun XT32 and measure the results.

Without a doubt I would say that to have the Triax veneered would probably be double the labor costs to veneer over the subs in the PowerX line.
And at the same time there could be a little marketing strategy involved too, there could be a lot smaller profit margins on the standard finish but they are hoping to sell more in volume.

Either way I'm really happy to see that Tom and Jim were able to keep the cost of the Triax under 3 grand with shipping included. I mean a JTR Cap S2 is 3 grand plus shipping, and those shipping charges can really add up if you're buying two of them.

I did at the time, but couldnt figure it out, the graph would be flat if i changed one XV-30 to 180 phase, but i could hear it was out of phase, i dnt have them anymore, traded them for a Triax, now i just gotta play the waiting game.

What's your room like? Can you upload a layout? Maybe someone can figure out what the weakness is. Getting worse with 2 def is something up with the room. Even with 1 there's something taking away from your sub. What your room dimension and sq ft? What does it connect to in your house?

Well, with the exception of the waiting game, if there's any undiagnosed problem with your old XV30's, a replacement Triax should cure the problem. tongue.gif

I would say that your next investment should be some nice H/T speakers.

It depends, if the Triax ends up drowning out the voices I might have to, but so far the bowers and Wilkins are keeping up pretty good. They might not be the loudest but I love their clarity. I've measured them to 103dbs and they where going strong but today I might push them just to see where they can go while maintaining quality just to get an idea.

Well if you love clarity, you would think you've died and gone to heaven if you heard any of the new JTR Noesis line of speakers.

I've personally heard speakers such as Klipsch Ultra 2's, RF-7's & RC-64 centre channel, Paradigm Studio 100v5's & CC-690 centre channel and recently some Focal Chorus 826v's and CC 800v centre channel. And without a doubt I that my 228HT's were better in the clarity department.

My Gear:

JTR Noesis 228HT (LCR)
Axiom Audio QS8 surrounds
Sherbourn PA 7-350
Pioneer VSX-21TXH
JVC RS45
Falcon Screens FVHD105
Dual PSA XS30's (gone but not forgotten)

I beleive without a doubt, anyone who has jtrs swear by them and they would def be the ones id get. Realistically i could get a set of 5 speakers and run a strong high end 3 or 5 ch external amp but im not sure if i want to just stop where im at and wait till i buy a house where i could have a bad ass ht room built and go all out from scratch. If i start saving now and keep my credit going up then i might be able to pull it off by next year. Thing is im just renting this house so im kinda slowing down and thinking of this house idea. biggrin.gif
