Yep tried turning the AVR to +18dbs and the laptop volumes to max and also the REW volume control to max but the test tones come out weak through my AVR. Its gotta be something to do with the phono jack volume on the laptop

Do you have any other sound source you can connect to and see if maybe the laptop headphone jack is defective. How is the laptop when connected to a pair of headphones?

Try playing music on the laptop through the headphone output. If that comes out loud, but the REW output is soft, then it's a problem with the REW settings. If it's all soft, then it's the laptop.

So far when I plug the headphones into the phono jack it plays loud but once I plug the monoprice cables into it and the receiver it sounds faint like the volume is restricted. So that leaves me with either the receiver set wrong, cables bad, or something with REW. Hmmm this is hard to figure out

I had an issue with my laptop not being able to output a loud enough signal, and also low hz signal through the headphone output. I had a USB sound card laying around and hooked that up and it solved the problem. Maybe the same thing for you??

My headphone out would
not output less than 30hz.

I wonder if there's an issue with the cable. You can get a 1/8" to RCA adapter at a Radio Shack or Walmart. If you have one nearby, go grab one of these and use it with a regular RCA cable (you can use just one if you don't have a pair available).

Max

P.S. try turning the HDMI to Off for Aux1 in the avr

So the test signal works from the laptop into headphones but once it's hooked into the receiver it plays real weak through the AVR. Hmmm now I wouldn't use the audio in at the rear side of the receiver or some other input? So if I get some other cables at walmart it would eliminate the possibility of bad monoprice cables. If it still does the same thing should I get a USB sound card? If so can I get it at a Best Buy?

You could get the sound card at guitar center.

It's very weird that it won't work for you

Unfortunately my only option here is a Best Buy, there's no other places. Basically the REW test tones won't play through my receiver loud enough. The laptop is brand new so I'm confused to what it could be. The mic works because if I talk by it the recording levels spike so it's def something to do with getting the signal from the laptop to the receiver to play louder through the HT speakers. It almost seems like maybe they're plugged to the wrong place on my receiver?

LOL! I thought of asking that, but the fact that you were getting audio (even if it was low level) seemed to make it unlikely. That's odd that you're get audio through on the wrong input setting.

It means you need to have your brother help you move one of the subs behind your main listening position, rerun XT32 and measure again.

(got the tracking number, the 4520 will be here on the 7th)

You'll find that with REW, you'll have to move the subs to various locations around the room until you find the one that works the best with the acoustics in the room. The graph is also saying the acoustics in your room, likes the right sub in the corner.

In your case, I would suspect that if you leave one in the front right corner and one behind your main listening position, after running XT32 and making the normal changes to speakers on small and the crossover frequency for all speakers set to 80Hz, you'll have a killer graph from 4Hz to >120Hz and everybody here will be envious.

The huge "V" are nulls and is the reason one needs multiple subs so as to sonically fill those nulls in with complimentary sound waves to offset the cancelled sound waves from wall reflections.

You'll find that with REW, you'll have to move the subs to various locations around the room until you find the one that works the best with the acoustics in the room.

Man that'll be awesome when you get that upgrade! I see, so for now I'll just save readings at different locations and see what I find out smile.gif this might take some work eek.gif
