Some manufacturers have only 2 years warranty on their subwoofer amplifiers, others have 5 years. Does it depend on class type A, AB (BASH), or D? Does it even matter?

It depends on how long the manufacturer is willing to be on the hook in case of a failure. Unless you abuse the driver, the amp is the most likely part to fail first, so keep that in consideration if you're comparing warranties.

Yes, it seems as though the amps are the components to worry about! SVS has 5 year warranty, HSU has 2 year (with available to buy extended to make 5 years), Rythmik not sure 2 to 3 years, I think. So just wondering if under normal use, the amps make it typically 5 years or better for these subs? Or after 2 years or so, more iffy, and so warranty would be a good thing to have? Thanks,

Rythmik has three years. Many subs make it to five years and beyond, but you have to take them on a case by case basis. Hsu subs are reliable, I wouldn't worry about getting an extended warranty with them, they are not likely to fail within 5 years. Rythmik subs also seem reliable, you don't hear much about failures from them. Some companies in the past have had such horrendous reliability issues, it basically killed them. Elemental Designs, and maybe Epik. AV123 had huge reliability issues with their popular MFW subwoofer, that wasn't what killed them in the end, but it sure hastened their downfall. Heat is the enemy of electronics electronics, if you ever hear of any amplifier that runs hot, you should worry.
