Is there something else that would be as good or better for that price? I will use it mainly for rock/pop music, which I like to play loud at times but I don’t want the bass to overpower the rest of the music. My living room is 12x16, or 12x22 if counting partially separated entrance area. I have the speakers at the front of the living room and will sit 10 feet away. This will be my first sub and I plan to use with bookshelf speakers, maybe Polk RTIA1 or similar quality. Any insight or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'd pay $200 for an Energy S10.3 in mint condition, but not for an ESW-C8.

IMO, you should strongly consider the JBL ES250PBK for $199.99, shipped, at It will have more output and greater extension than the ESW-C8.

The HSU STF-1 or Outlaw M8 are better subs, but in your room, I would save till you can get at least the HSU STF-2.
