Subwoofers, Bass, and Transducers > Choosing between SVS, MK, Paradigm subwoofers for condo

I have a 3-bedroom condo where the living room is about 3 x 3.5 meters but is part of a larger space with the dining and kitchen areas attached.

The living room has a TV, a Denon 1713 receiver, and B&W 685 speakers. I plan to use this for movies and music, and try to set up a listening nook in ano

Which is a better sub for this?
- SVS PB12
- Velodyne EQ12
- Paradigm Monitor Sub12
- Miller & Kreisel SB1250

Or is there a better model subwoofer for the space I describe and this rough price range?

SVS without question.

SVS between those choices.

A PowerSound Audio XV15 would be great too.

Out of the 3 the SVS will sound lower, louder, tighter, while being cheaper than the Paradigm or Velodyne. I've heard of the Paradigm Monitor SUB 12, and it is anemic.

While not having heard the other 2 I can tell you that the paradigm was good in my room. My ht place let me borrow a sub 12 while waiting for my sub 2. It filled my room, granted I don't have the biggest room but it is open at the back to the rest of the house

Lots of people swear by SVS even though they also say it is no longer the great value it was 5 years ago. Why do you recommend SVS over MK?

It is not true that SVS is no longer the great value it was 5 years ago. If you compare performance per dollar, the current SVS subs are quite a bit better performing than their older models. For example, the current $769 entry level PB12-NSD is a better performer than the old $1299 PB12-Ultra (around the same max output, but better sound quality). SVS doesn't seem as good as a value before because there is much more competition with ID subwoofers now from Rythmik, PSA, JTR to name a few.

Therefore, compared to brick and mortar subwoofers, the SVS is still a way better value, and probably even more so considering the performance increases.

Are you referring to the Dayton MK 4? http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?partnumber=300-765

Small 12 inch seal sub with 250w is not a recipe for high output at low ulf. Large ported, than maybe.

The MK is not in the same category as the PB12. If you wanted that MK, you should compare it to the SVS SB12NSD or the Power Sound Audio XS15...and my preference would still be the SVS or PSA, either of which would probably outperform the MK
