I've read tons on the subject but cant make my mind up, im buying a sub for my basement.  Ive narrowed it down to the following:

PB12-NSD - $769 shipped

LVR-12R - $589 shipped

LFM-1EX - $649 + shipping - black friday coming??

VTF3-MK4 - $719 shipped (on sale)

PSA-XV15 - $799 shipped

My room is huge, people are going to tell me there is no way one sub will work, but i have no choice.  One sub is all I can do.

15 x 45 x 9, my sitting area is 15 x 15, boookshelves on either sides.

I am going to go with HSU bookshelves and center, they seem to be the best bang for the buck, unless you think that there is another in the same price/performance.

I cant do floorstanding, so this is where I am at.

Any contenders I am missing?

Looking for 90% movie use, I like the rumble.

Thanks and sorry I know people have discussed this exhaustively.  I have read until my eyes have bled.

xv15 in my somewhat biased opinion...

I have owned the pb12-nsd and imho the xv15 was night and day better.

now the other subs I cant comment on directly

but from your list you cant go terribly wrong

Your complete theatre room is just over 6000 cu ft, which is huge. You require at least 3-4 XV-15s for that kind of space. If you plan using HSU bookshelves then I recommend dual HSU-VTF15H. You may get them cheap if it's bundle deal with speakers.

I would work with a sub from the same manufacture as the rest of your system, I use Polks and they have what they call timbre match with there products and they think its important. I think I do to.

Timbre matching subwoofers to your mains is not important. Crossover and phasing is what is important, as is placement.

I would vote XV15.

+1 to don't bother timbre-matching sub to speakers.
+1 to either the VTF-15H or the XV15.

But IMO duals of either those would be better. smile.gif

If Outlaw offers a crazy deal on dual LFM-1 EXs, that would be an option worth considering.

Stratos your room is HUGE but if you can only do 1 sub I would look at either PSA XV-30f or HSU VTF-15H.

I would go for one of the VTF subs and use it in 2 port mode. I would also try near-field placement in a room like that. Try right behind the seat or an endtable type placement.

Outlaw LFM-1 EX is on sale now for $600 shipped. It's hard to beat that bang for the buck.

These are the best deals around when the EX goes on sale. I've owned 2. They are great subs.

Thanks a lot for the feedback.

I guess what I don't want to do is spend 600 when if I would have spent 800 I would have been much happier. So far, outlaw is in the lead for the value. Really appreciate the comments.

IMO, you should very strongly consider biting the bullet, going from $800 to $1,200 and getting dual LFM-1 EXs. You will be that much happier. smile.gif

As much as I like PSA subs that's a damn good price, that's awesome bang for the buck at $600 shipped.

Well, I got the sub today and decided to quick test it out upstairs. The room is 60 x 15 and 10' ceilings with an open staircase and entryway adjoining with an old receiver and inwall speakers. I plugged the sub out to the EX input, turned on ratatouille to the first scene, put my kids on the couch and grinned from ear to ear. It felt like my couch was on a roller coaster. The lightning strike and the shotgun blasts has my kids looking outside to see if a dump truck crashed into the side of the house.

I can't wait to see how it does on the concrete corner in the basement. Thanks a lot for the help deciding on this. That outlaw pounds, as I'm sure all the others do as well - but at $600 delivered, you guys were right, it's a no brainier. I feel sorry for everyone who doesn't know about these great options for subs and buy retail.

With your room being so large I think your best bet is to have the sub placed as closely to your seating as possible.
