Hi Folks,

I'm looking to replace 2 x SVS PB12-Ultra down firing with 2 subs. What would you recommend between the 4 contenders in the title?

Relevant info:
Family room: 17(d) x 24(w) x 21(H) = 8600 cubic feet open floor plan with opening to a large kitchen, sun room, living room, 2-story foyer, cat walk.
Mains : B&W 802 Diamond
Pre-amp: Marantz AV8-8801
Amp: Emotiva XPR-1 1000W monoblocks
Preferences: 70% music, 30% movie
Subs: 2 x SVS PB12-Ultra, 1x Hsu VTF-3 MK4

I prefer the VTF-3 MK4 to PB12-Ultra's as it sounds more musical but powered alone, it tends to be a little boomy.

VTF-15H doesn't look as nice, although ULS-15 appears acceptable.

I seem to incline to go the 2xFunk 18.0 route, although I'm debating 1 x Funk 18.3 because of the looks and it's cheaper than 2 18.0s.

Appreciate your input in helping me decide.

This is a no-brainer, get the Funk 18.0, two of them. You can compare it to the DD-18 Plus over at (DD-18 vs Funk 18.0). The DD-18 is very good, but the Funk outperforms it in every single metric. I love the Hsu ULS-15, and it is a great sub, but its not beating a Funk 18.0, which is using one of the best subwoofer drivers on the planet. The Funk 18.3 will get you more output at around its tuning point, but one sub is prone to localization, plus it won't have the room smoothing ability of multiple sub setups. An 18.3 will have a roll off better suited towards the LFE in movies, in my opinion.

Hey jt.. Have you ever had a chance to listen/experience a sub like the 18.3 with the dual PR vent option?

If you go with Funk you won't be disappointed! One option you might want to consider would be a dual TSAD 18" with 4800 W in whatever veneer tickles your fancy. FA can build a "double 18.0" for less than two individual 18.0's if you wanted to go that route. Personally, I think a dual 18" just looks more impressive/menacing/unique than a couple of singles... smile.gif
