My wife on the other hand always says 'TOO much bass, can you lower the bass?'. She has not watched a movie in my man cave theater yet but only watch on my secondary living room theater with in ceiling speakers and one SVS Sb12-nsd that covers over 8000 ft^3 frown.gif

Yep...a $100 Best Buy sub would be more than enough for my wife as well.

Sorry to hear that the new sub isn't passing the ever difficult WAF. My wife doesn't get it either but she let's me have what I want in the man cave (unless it's butt ugly) so I was able to  get away with something the size of the XV15. As far as bass goes she doesn't really care as long as it's not too loud. Wives can be a challenge to achieving the ultimate HT.

I agree that I would wait a week or two and let your wife become use to the sub. But the PSA would also be a good choice.

Yes, the WAF is a powerful force indeed but you must fight the force.

I found the Chinese Water Torture to be effective by constantly taking about how lousy the sound quality was and how if I did this or that, this is how the sound quality would improve.

Moping and whining didn't hurt either. You must learn to put your manly man skills to the test. These are the same skills one learns to use when as a youth, a son wanted to manipulate....."MOM!"

...biggrin.gif

What, you thought wives learned their manipulating skills from "DAD?" tongue.gif

LOL!. It's funny because it's true.

I agree, this is effective. I have used it myself, constantly complaining about how weak the bass was in the movies and what was the use of having good speakers and AVR and Blue-ray etc. if the bass stunk. Slowly but surely she came around. All's fair in love and HT. :D

Or you could have a wife who tells you to buy what you want the first time because there's no point in buying something you don't really want the first time and returning it for something else. That is what I have.

Yeah, that works. That's actually where my wife is now. In the beginning she would put up a fuss but now she trusts me to know that I won't buy anything without a lot of research and when I do it will be what I really want and it will be good. But that took a few years.

You guys make marriage sound scary....I don't think I could ever share a buying decision as long as it was my money (nor would I think of telling her what to do with hers).

You are not describing marriage.  If its "your" money or "her" money, its not your wife, its a friend.

So far, my pb12 has cost $2,150.  I should have upped the budget.

Well, I know this is the "norm" but see no reason to simply transfer my assets if I did decide to get married, that's nuts. Probably why I prefer being single wink.gif FWB is as good as it gets AFAIC.

Depends on who you marry. I have a great wife so marriage is not not scary at all. But that can't be said for everyone.

From what I have seen in these forums it's not always about money, a lot of times it's about room aesthetics. For some strange reason women don't always appreciate big boxes that rumble sitting in their living rooms (crazy I know, but it's true). Where as men love their big rumbling boxes. It's good to have a man cave. :D

I have over 20 years in the business and it really is scary at times....not concerning buying subs though......lol. Usually it get scary when I have something that can be recycled and I put in the trash.

The wife and I have joint accounts and we have other accounts that are separate. Both of us have little things we buy that the other may not consider to be worth the money. The beauty comes in when the other recognizes that even though they would not have spent a dime on the item the other paid $100 bucks for, that item is what they wanted so it's all good.

My wife would normally think that spending over $2K for a couple big black boxes that produce a lot of noise ridiculous but she knew that was what I wanted so it was fine with her to have those two big black boxes in our home. Granted, I have a dedicated theater where some might have to put those boxes in the living area.

My wife and I have been married before we had much of anything financially.  However, I still believe that if you are married to the right person, not sharing 100% in something as trivial comparatively as money, would mean that it was not a true marriage.

I'm sure most couples have varying thresholds that are considered trivial as far as spending money goes.  My wife and I budget fairly strictly as a matter of principle, including "blow" money.  We discuss and agree upon substantial purchases, or we don't purchase them.  This works well for us and I have never felt deprived.  In fact there are plenty of times that we have helped each other make smarter purchase decisions than we would have made on our own without the other's input.

LOL, I get it now. I knew the sub was about $700 so I couldn't figure out why it had almost doubled. But it all makes perfect sense now. :)

Cheers to you and your marriage, I really hope you make it! Unfortunately I have seen the darker side of marriage far too often in my life (I'm 57); money does seem to make it worse in many cases, and lopsided. I have several friends who do the pre-nup agreement thing and that would be something I'd require....besides, am just not that interested in the institution, especially now that I'm not nearly as horny as in the days I was looking for that one gal...biggrin.gif

I can certainly understand that getting married later in life after being well established financially is rather different than marrying young and building financially together.
