I have a 20 by 25 living room woth vaulted ceilings, and the wall the couch is on opens up to the kitchen and hardwood floors throughout. I was looking at the bic h100, or should I just get 2 cheaper 100 dollar subs. I do mainly video games, movies and television. I recently bought a denon 1713.

To be frank, your bass is going to be severely lacking no matter what, given your two options. It's like asking if you should take a vacation in Afghanistan or Iraq?

I'm sure it's good for the $, but your room is huge. You'll need to spend at least $500 to get something that won't be swallowed by the room.

With a room that size you should be thinking about two $300 subs, minimum. And a carpet, unless you like gymnasium acoustics. wink.gif

The entire room. The carpet's purpose isn't to make the sub sound better, it's to prevent reflections in the midbass right up through the highest frequencies, which otherwise will bounce about, ruining the sound. A simple test: clap your hands. If you hear the sound of the clap ringing on your room is too reverberant and needs taming.

Your room is very large and the way you pick your sub(s) should be based upon total cubic footage of the area open to the room the sub will be in. So yes expecting good bass from $100-$200 sub is probably not gunna happen. You have 2 choices up your budget and get something that might do some justice in your room OR get the best sub in your price range and place it right beside or behind your couch (that will be the only way you will get decent bass sound or feel at your main listening postion in your room.

First off what do you expect from a sub? What do you want to accomplish?

IF you hope to get the punch in the chest from a gun shot or a kick drum and if you want room shaking, pants flapping bass during explosions or earthquakes or something like that. Then you are looking at paying a pretty penny. FYI I have a 20' X 15' X 8' room with a 4' wide floor to ceiling opening to the rest of the house. I have 2 Outlaw Audio LFM-1 Plus's and that is the absolute minimum that I can have in my room to get the bass I want. I bought them on sale both for $998 shipped. If I were to upgrade I'd probably be looking into 2 Rythmik FV15HP's or 2 PSA XV30f's OR the cheapest option would be for me to add 2 more LFM-1 Pluses and have 4 subs.
