Waiting on viewing until an upgrade in in place, is a pain. I can only watch an action flix so many times. Currently holding off on U-571 until the new receiver and Blu-ray player are installed and everything is dialed in. It's suppose to be delivered on this coming Tuesday. I'm looking forward to the image quality upgrade from the Blu-ray player upgrade and the improvement in sound quality by the addition of the new receiver's, 4 ohm capable, amplifier section.

hey Bee....just want to give you a slight headsup..

while you will 100% hear an upgrade in sound with your new receiver...you probably wont see much improvement if any from the new blu ray player video wise. Pretty much, a blu ray signal is a bluray signal (unless you are going to use the video processing in the bluray player for up scaling DVD)

but I found this out when choosing between a 100$ sony bd5100 and the 500$ oppo 103. just dont want you to get too disappointed with the lack of video quality upgrade.

but its a very nice player no doubt wink.gif

Thanks for the heads-up on the video image quality.

Tomorrow some time.

With the Blu-ray player, being able to stream data from online and the computer, in-of-itself will be a cool techno upgrade. Our current player is about four or five year old technology. Works good, connects to the web but IMO, is outdated technology as much has happened in the last four or five years.

Also, looking forward to the more capable amplifier section in the new receiver so the system will be better equipped to keep up with action based sound tracks as our current receiver (Marantz SR5008) isn't capable enough to keep up. Overall, the SR5008 does an excellent job but falls behind on the really heavy, demanding, scenes.

Bee,
You will notice a big improvement in sound going to xt32 but I doubt the improvement is in the extra power or the 4 ohm capable of your new 4520. Your Klipsch speakers are 8 ohm and very high efficient (rated @ 100db or so). My X4000 can drive my also Klipsch hight efficient speakers to a level I cannot handle at reference volume and my speakers can easily keep up with my dual subs. You don't listen as loud any way. With that being said, I do like the 4520 a lot (Still made in Japan) but it is too tall to fit in my cabinet.

Thanks for the above comments.

My hopes are that we'll get a performance boost for those times when wanting to crank up the volume to +/- 0 dB. As you commented, most of the time we listen in the -30dB to -20dB range.

My favorite bass demos are still from War Of The Worlds, the pod emergence being my all-time favorite introduction to bass for the uninitiated/unenlightened. I like that scene because it begins with just a hint with the first crack, then builds and builds, and runs the full gamut from single digit Hz, all the way up to the high frequencies with glass breaking and metal rending, and the scene lasts long enough to give them a workout.

The most common reaction from demo'ing that scene to the uninitiated is a laugh followed by a, "HOLY S##T!" and more laughter.

Although the movie is OK, it's not one I'd choose to make guests watch in its entirety unless they suggested that. As such, my vote for single movie that makes a good demo (for bass and everything else) would be Oblivion. Great soundtrack with excellent use of bass and stunning visuals. I'm in love with the camera they used to film Oblivion. The grain-free clarity is addicting and I want more of it.

Tron:Legacy is another favorite. Great pounding Daft Punk soundtrack with great bass effects AND the movie is pretty good eye candy (Oblivion wins over TL simply because the lead actor in TL is pretty wooden/forgettable).

UA is pretty good too, but for initiation, I prefer something that will introduce the unsuspecting to infrasonic ELF territory as well, and UA is mostly a 30Hz movie.

I guess my "go to" demo movie would be Oblivion. Like djbluemax1 said, the picture quality is incredibly pristine. I love the score and really like the movie. And yeah, the bass is quite impressive.

A safe bet is always the "emergence scene" from WotW. Can't go wrong there. If one is looking into horror, I guess I'd put in The Conjuring (when I first saw it, I jumped a foot at the pounding doors scene(s)).

I found by having this moving turned up loud helped with getting freaked out easily anytime there were sudden bangs or knocks, itd just hit hard out of no where! I wasn't scared though, I was terrified!! biggrin.gif

LOL! Yeah, my son watched it on a night that his wife and kids were away, so he was alone. He said it scared the heck out of him ... he didn't say "heck"wink.gif. It has great dynamics, going from very quiet scenes ... then suddenly jolts the heck out of you. They did it right.

BTW, I cannot imagine how it would sound with TWO Triax subwoofers!!!!! No wonder you were terrified!

For me. Transformers 1 - Iron Flip

Also, The Haunting on DVD, the DTS version. Chapters 10 and 17 holy crap! If you don't believe me because it's a DVD research it and rent it or heck buy it since it's so cheap.
