50/50 movies/music (all kinds of music from hard rock to hip hop to Mozart)

Front speakers Infinity IL-40

Center IL-25c

Surrounds and rear surrounds smaller HTIB polks

Here is the room shape. Currently I have 2 Infinity 8" BU-1's Want to replace both with a single 12"

.

Is the 12" too large for the room size? Maybe a 10" would be better...Im set on a front firing style for sure. The BU-1 is a down firing style.... Floor is carpet...

Thank you!

Klipsch. It has more output versus the Polk.

The is no such thing IMHO as overkill when subwoofer shopping. When on a small budget buy the best you can.

With a room that size don't even think about having only one sub, nor those with less than a 12 inch driver, unless your wife is in control of the remote. rolleyes.gif

It doesn't matter which way the driver aims, or what's on the floor.

No, wife likes loud music and movies too!  The room is really 13x17 for the most part... the space to the right has no seating positions for movies. I can shake things up pretty well with my sucky BU-1's.... dont you think one quality 12 placed in the left corner would suffice? Ceiling height is 8'...

Wouldnt a hard floor vs a carpeted floor make some kind of difference?

Well, I pulled the trigger on a  NIB Polk PSW505... I tried bidding on a Klipsch RW-12 last night and it wound up selling for $350./shipped for a used one.... The Polk was $280./shipped I know its gonna be a great improvment over what I have now. If I need another Polk, they seem readily availabe even brand new.

Search 'room modes'. They can't be fixed with only one sub.

Not below 100Hz. Above 100Hz a hard floor is gosh awful.
