Hey guys,

My home theatre is as follows:

- 2x Klipsch RF52II Towers
- Klipsch RC-52 Center
- 2x Klipsch R-2650 II (in-wall)
- 2x Bose 161 (built into the column post)

Link

I need 2 subwoofers, price range under $600. The Martin Logan Dynamo 500 are on sale right now for $199 each. Will two of these be adequate for my HT sized at 14 x 25? Or should i go for two 12"?

I will be watching sports 75% of the time, 15% movies and 10% games.

Thanks guys

I think you would be very happy with those subs. Especially at that price! I'm running 1 Dynamo 700 with Martin Logan Motion Series towers with a Motion center and surrounds. My room is similarly sized to yours. The LF with my system is great with both movies and music.

The ML subwoofer is rated at 50-200hz your towers list a response of 36hz and up. Given those specs your towers have the ability to play lower then your subwoofer. I would look into a subwoofer that plays lower with more output then your mains.

At $600 one SVS PB12 NSD on sale for $599 in the svs outlet will play louder and deeper then both of those subwoofers combined with much better bass quality.

That didn't sound right to me, so i looked it up.  Actually that sub is rated at 29-200 hz.  The low pass filter is 50-200hz.  Dollar wise, it's still a good deal.  But so is the SVS at $599. And yes, the SVS will have somewhat deeper bass and does well in the reviews.  A good choice also.

MartinLogan Dynamo 500 ($199)
- 10" driver
- 120W RMS amp
- 29-200Hz +/-3dB

JBL ES250P (available through Amazon.com - as the ES250PBK - for $250, shipped)
- 12" driver
- 400W RMS amp
- 25-150Hz +/-?dB

Although the JBL's variance isn't listed as "+/-3dB", 25Hz @ -3dB doesn't seem unreasonable. But for argument's sake, let's say the JBL's extension matches the ML's. With 400W on tap (vs. the ML's 120W), the JBL should have noticeably more overall output.

For only $50 more per sub, and given that its ratings on Amazon.com are overwhelmingly positive*, I'd go with dual ES250Ps.

(*75% of the ratings are 5/5; 85% are 4/5 and higher.)

Two small subs are better than one big sub. You have two mains and two ears afterall.

Those ML 500 looks like a steal of a price!
