Hello guys,

I'm new and this is my first post

~~ I'm about to finish up my new home and I have most of my stuff so far for my 7.1 setup. Just a bit left, and would like some sub reccomendations. First. 85% of use will be for HT the rest split between gaming and music. The room measures out at 1800cuft. I already have the following. Yamaha rx-a2020 receiver. Def Tech cs-8060 center channel. DT studio monitor 350 left and right. DT pro monitor 1000 surround and back surround. So, what I'm looking for is a capable $1000 or less sub that will last a good while to where I can use for years and grow the other components when I can. So far,

I have three different models in mind, they are. 1 svs sb or pb 1200. Read really good reviews on both models. And if I understand correctly. The vented subs will go lower and play louder? 2 power sound audio. Sv or xs 15. Again, read great reviews on these also. Finally. Jl e110. I found a new one for $1050.00. A bit more than I really want to spend. It's sealed from what I've read but has a 1200 watt amp

. So, of the three listed. What do you guys say? I'd also like some input on the sealed vs. ported and if I would really be able to tell much difference? And, if you guys have any reccomendations on some or models or brands I should check out. I'm all ears. I'm looking to place an order in the next 10-14 days.

~~ Please, include some thoughts about is subwoofer vs. the others ULS-15 Subwoofer from HSU?

Thanks jerid

SB-/PB-1000 or -2000? There is no -1200.

Ported subs have more output around their tuning frequencies. Sealed subs can play louder above and below that range. Also, in a relatively smaller room like yours, sealed subs can benefit from room gain to dig even deeper than ported.

2 power sound audio. Sv or xs 15.
XS15, XV15

According to the owner's manual (PDF):

Amplifier Power: 1200 watts RMS short-term
Sounds like it's 1200W peak power, so the continuous power rating would be a fair bit lower.

I'd go with one SVS SB-/PB-2000 or one PSA XV15 or dual SVS PB-1000s.

The ULS-15 costs $1,029 + $75 shipping. It exceeds your budget.

The ULS would be my first choice from the ones you listed, but most people would be happiest with a VTF15h. The VTF15h is just a bit over $1k shipped and will outperform all the subs you mentioned by a good margin. It is a very large unit though, make sure you have the space for it.

+1 to the VTF-15H if you're willing to go over-budget.

I'm sorry,  I meant xs and xv subs for Power Sound..

Again,  I'm looking for something that will last a long while and wont have to upgrade..   I do think I'm going to upgrade my L and R channels here in the next six months or so to a tower speaker of some brand or another.  And use the spare Def Tech promonitors as a 8th and 9th channel.

TVMAN1991 had a pair of VTF-15Hs for sale. If they're still for sale, if he's willing to sell them individually and depending on your location, you may be able to get a great deal on a powerful and very well-rated sub.

Or you could buy both and be REALLY set. cool.gifwink.gif

The only thing I hesitant about with the Hsu is it has a much lower powered amp.

I really leaning toward the SVS or Power Sound subs as the price is great and Id say a few bucks vs. the Hsu and JL.  Along with the info that 99% of the Pro Sound is made in the USA, from what I'm told.

Also.     about the JL.  I would most certainly be able to tell a difference in both volume and frequency?

BTW,

I was Just on the phone with Power Sound.

The owner actually answered the phone and spoke with me quite a while.   He said he has a XS30 coming in for and upgrade for a little over $1000.00.  unless someone says different,  that sounds like a awesome deal to me.  I told him to go ahead and reserve it for me. Unless im steered in a different direction.  Also,  He said he has two coming in for exchange in case someone else would like one.  One is already spoken for.  LOL.

Jeez, I already have a salesman!!! Thanks for the shoutout.

The VTF-15Hs are AMAZING and the amps are pretty stout and underrated. I've never gotten it to bottom out and my room is roughly the same size as yours.

If your in the tri-state NY area I'd be willing to meet you and sell you one for $650 picked up, or $725 shipped!

That's a gr8 deal...if the Hsu warranty is transferable the OP should seriously consider your offer(budget permitting). Btw...looking forward to your SB13's impressions...your room looks fantastic and good luck with this sale and more so the "new" subs.

Hi there,

It is transferable. Just make sure you keep a record of the serial numbers of the subs and the name of the original owner. If you can get a copy of the original invoice, that would be even better. wink.gif

Yea Ms feels like a different country. A lot of people from other parts of the country think we don't have electricit, paved road, tv or bathrooms. I can tell you we do. And have very low taxes and cost of living.

Ok,

Let me ask this,  I have a chance to get a Power Sound XS30 slightly used,  for around $1000.  or a new XV15 for $799.00   Should I get the XS30 for only a couple hindered bucks extra?

Sorry for the late reply.   I've had some back problems and have been busy getting it looked into.

I had planned on ordering the XS30 yesterday. Unfortunately, I didn't get a positive MRI result.

Thank you for your help.
