I think I've narrowed my search down to these two subs. My question is, would you spend the money on the HSU? This is going in a 2000 cubic foot room.

Either sub should have enough bass for a 2000 cubic ft room unless you are an extreme basshead (in which case, you would need a more expensive sub).

I would go for the HSU vtf1 mk2 over the BIC PL-200 for its more linear, deeper bass extension. Another sub you could consider in the same price range is the SVS PB-1000.

At this point I hope the BIC will do. The rest of the basement is adding up fast and the extra $200 will be needed elsewhere. Thanks for the input.

Buy the HSU....the extra 200.00 is well worth the quality of bass you will gain over the BIC.

I can see this will be like the golf forum where I need a putter and end up with a whole new set of clubs:)
If I go with a down firing sub, does this affect placement?

Maybe the stf-2 is more up my alley... Is it really the same sub minus the Q control?

Have you considered the STF-2? Very similar to the VTF 1 tuned for maximum reach. I've got it in a much larger room and it performs well.

No. Consider any subwoofer, no matter the orientation or number of drivers as a point source that radiates outward.

Ok. The stf-2 seems like a winner for me. I was hoping to stay in the $300 range. One of the threads I read recommended the BIC at that price point. The HSU subs seem to be great speakers.

In the PL-200 forum, a number of individuals have upgraded from the F12 and indicated that the PL-200 is better than the F12.

Some individuals have upgraded from the PL-200 to the STF2 and indicated that the STF2 is better. I have a STF2 and my son has a PL200. The STF2 plays lower and is better with music.

Hsu is a very solid choice if you have to spend less than $500 on a sub.(they have better ones too, but probly amongst the best if choosing a cheaper sub.)

The HSU VTF 1 is far and away the better choice here.

If budget concerns come up, take a look at the HSU STF 2

Also with that room, you might can get away with the SVS SB1000
