Definitive Technology makes some small "Super Cubes" that might meet your requirements. And you might find a used Carver sub.

I can recommend the Martin Logan Depth I. It is compact but has plenty of clean output

If money really is no object then you should check out some of the Funk Audio 18.0 subs. They aren't any smaller than your existing sub, but they have a large selection of really nice finishes. Perhaps you can get away with a large sub if it looks attractive and fits your existing decor (perhaps even doubling as an end-table or something). Funk does custom jobs too, so you could work with your wife to design something you both would be happy with.

I would also suggest a sunfire sub....they are small, powerful, and look really nice in the piano gloss finish. If your budget is too low then go with a used one. It would be an upgrade in performance and aesthetics....I'm sure your wife would approve,....well 90% sure:)

I bet he's still sneaking peeks on his phone... in case he is, and money is not that big of an issue, I'd recommend looking into custom subs made to look like an end table. You get the sub you desire, she doesn't have to look at it... unless it really is a balls in the purse thing. I've got similar WAF issues, and put it straight out there... 'do you prefer a 15" ^3 sub or two that are clearly visible in the room, or a significantly more expensive sub disguised as an end table/cabinet and matching our current furniture? I was going down the path of contracting a local cabinet maker to build a custom sub based on the 15" Rythmik driver and was somewhat surprised that 'proper' decor was not THAT important wink.gif Two SB-2000s on the way.

If cost is no issue, I'd second the SB13-U recommendation. Another alternative, albeit a little larger, would be the Rythmik E15.

For something more 'practical', I'd recommend the SB2000. I'm considering adding two SB2000s to my current set up.

Disclaimer: I'm recommending these subs sight unheard so you probably shouldn't listen to me tongue.gif.

My wife did not like the boxed ported subs. have you considered getting the same sub or a better sub in cylinder version? my wife thought those look really nice. you should show her and see what she thinks. it's much taller but it also takes up a lot less actual space.

I wasn't impressed with my SVS SB12+ for movies, so I doubt two SB2000 would be fanastic.

Went for SBU13.

I'm really town on my upgrade path. My options are as follows:

- Dual SB2000 plus Epik Empire (near field)
- Dual Rythmik E15s (no Empire)
- Dual PSA XV-15s (no Empire)

I like the dual SB200s route because I don't have to sell my Empire and if I don't like it, I could return the SB2000s pursuant the the 45 day in-home trial. My Empire does fairly well in my space. My only compliant is a hint of localization at times and uneven bass at some listening positions. I thought the SB2000s could even out the FR. No complaints with the Empire on movies.

Went through a similar problem myself lately - the Squaw said the vtf-15 had to go. After a bunch of reading, I narrowed down to the rythmik e15, svs sb13 and funk 18.0c. After soliciting a bunch of opinions, the confusion was obvious - any of these would work for me. (We don't listen very loud - the Hsu in sealed mode was more than enough for us, even in a 35x20x8 room.

In the end I decided I'd go with the cheapest option - I was luck enough to get a used sb13.

I compared the vtf-15 sealed to the pb13 in sealed (which I was told should approximate the sb13) on data-bass, and was pretty confident the switch would work. In practice, same result.

My advice would to contact manufactured about b stock (funk had some good options; you also get a discount of sorts given the weak Loonie) and don't be afraid if the used market.

Choosing between the SB2000 and XV15 does not make much sense, two very different subs.  Better comparison would be SB2000 vs XS15 or PB2000 vs XV15.  The ported options will be similar for music with two to four times the output for movies.

Yup, I agree about the difference between the subs. I'm looking at the SB2000 as a compliment to the other subs, not as a replacement. For instance, I wouldn't substitute dual SB2000 for even my single Empire, but I am considering adding the SB2000s to my current set up.

I'd like to spend $1,500-$2,000ish. So I can either ditch the Empire and replace it with either the XV-15s or E15s, or I can keep the Empire and add the SB2000s in hopes of it improving my FR and adding a few DBs of headroom/volume.

Hmm, well, to play along with your empire, I can see why sealed subs are appealing to you.  In that case, have you looked at the XS30?  Or dual XS15's?

I think keeping the Empire near field and adding another sealed sub or two would work well.

Adding dual XS30's would be close to your budget with the dual sub discount, and each would be an upgraded version of what you currently have imo.

Yeah, I'd love to implement dual XS30s but I unfortunately can't fit two in my space. I can fit two largers subs (no wider than 17") nearfield next my sofa. Unfortunately the 17" width requirement eliminates a lot of subs. Upfront I'm limited to smaller subs for WAF reasons.

Daul XS15's could work then at 17".  Ah but then they are too big to go up front yes?  Hmm I don't know.  I guess I would have to take into account your longest room dimension, how much output you want for movies, etc.  If you are happy with the output of the Empire, and just want smoothing and a bit of extra headroom, I suppose the twin SB2000's you mentioned could fit the bill then.  You would definitely have the potential to really smooth out your room this way.  Or perhaps a single SB13 Ultra up front?  Or a single XS30 up front?  I am not familiar with the dimensions of Rythmik sealed subs but it seems these are your options....PSA, SVS, and Rythmik, and maybe Hsu's ULS-15.

This gives you an idea of my area http://www.avsforum.com/t/1318942/my-modest-setup

You know, I might be able to squeeze the XS-15s upfront, never thought of that. It would be about the same size as the media console. I'll take some measurements tonight.

I was tired of wavering on which sub to buy so I maned up and placed an order for dual Rythmik E15HPs in black oak. Now I can move on with my life smile.gif. Seriously though, I've been spending so much time over thinking which sub to buy I was driving myself crazy. I went to Ascend's site (distributor) tonight with no intention of buying and one thing led to another. Now the waiting game smile.gif.

I need to buy a umik-1 so I can take measurements. I'd like to try different configurations...single E15HP, dual E15HPs, duals E15HPs plus Empire. I'm sure the latter will make for a very immersive HT experience. I intend to sell the Empire but if the 3 sub configuration sounds great, I may need to turn up the charm with the wife (i.e., buy her something).
