Heya subwoofer freaks!  Yes, you.  Thought it might be fun to start another interesting thread about what your upcoming upgrade plans are.  What is your current equipment, and what do you plan on upgrading to?  Including subwoofers of course, but I would not mind hearing about the rest of your system as well.  I feel like I am familiar with all the subwoofer junkies and wanted to keep it all in one place.  Here are my two cents:

Next planned upgrade:  Surround speakers.  I currently have none!  Looking at a cheap pair of Fluance bipoles, they look decent for the price...$120/pair for the small set, $200/pair for the large set.

Then, upgrade the Polk PSW110 to most likely a PSA XS15

Then 50" plasma to a 70"

Then the entry level receiver to a Denon X4000.

Those are my plans as far into the future as I can foresee.

Ascend Horizon and Towers --> RAAL tweeter upgrade (I may start with the just the Horizon)
52" Samsung LCD --> 75" Samsung F8000 (if i can get a good deal...still haggling with a retailer)

2 yrs ago I upgraded to:

Polk RTI-A7 & A4 RLC speaker to replace RTI-10's.

Last year I upgraded to:

Yamaha V773 (replaced a 467)

FXI-A4 Surrounds (replaced RTI-3, may use for front presence)

3 PSA XV-15's (replaced dual Polk PSW 505's)

60" led (replaced a 42" LCD)

Aquired a Adcom GFA-555II to power my A7's for free smile.gif

UMM-6 mic

Mini Dsp

Rat shack spl meter

I am done for a bit, but my next round of upgrades may include:

going DIY for full Marty Subs with UXL-18's

that new Dirac live processor(if it proves to be as worthy as the initial reviews).

Polk LSI-M705 & 704 RLC

Should of went with a 70-80" led.... 60" is too small.

Full marty has a 5db advantage in lower bass region...I was originally thinking cubes, but I am not sure I could handle giving up 5db down low.

After my Dec 2012 major upgrade which was almost everything but my mains ,center and amps! I decided I would do none for 2013 and made it eek.gif but its now time to put the finishing touches to rest. Here's the current line up.

Display Mitsubishi 73" 73738 Dlp

Pre/pro Marantz 8801

Sources Oppo 105 and Xfinty

Amps Parasound Halo A21 (for mains) and Anthem MCA 30 (for center & surrounds)

Main speakers Boston Acoustics E100's

Center Boston Acoustics VR12

Surrounds Energy Veritas V-S Bipole/Dipole

Sub Ken Kresiel Sound DXD12012

Fusion Escape seating curved configuration

Accessories : (2) 20amp dedicated lines) Ps Audio Soloist Premier (inwall conditioner) Dectet conditioner & Quintent conditioner. GIK 7" Monster Bass Trap ,ATS acoustic panels & bass traps.
Cabling from various PS Audio perfectwave power cables AC3-AC12 , Pangea AC9SE & AC9 Hdmi's are MonoPrice Redmere also Pangea for Audio. Speaker cables are Morrow Audio SP3's and Clearday on center with BJ 10awg for surrounds. IC's are AQ and Morrow Audio XlR &RCA.

This year I'm hoping ( if the Good Lord says the same) to add a Front projector (big maybe I love my dlp and have 2 new lamps on stand by) also second DXD12012 , diffusion panels & possibly expand to 9.2 or 7.1 with the addition of a 3 or 5ch amp! And lastly Omni mic for REW that's downloaded and ready to go on the laptop I purchased in 2012 as well for this reason smile.gif

Fun Thread!

I can get a decent deal on Samsung TVs so I have two upgrade paths I’m considering. What would you do?

Option # 1
TV Upgrade: from 52” Samsung to 65” Samsung F8000 $2,300
Sub upgrade: single empire to dual PSA XV-15s $1,500
Total: $3,800

Option # 2
TV Upgrade: from 52” Samsung to 75” Samsung F8000 $4,400
Total: $4,400

On paper it seems very lopsided. Option # 2 is 10” of additional screen real estate, but at $600 more expensive and no dual subs. But, I believe the additional 10” inches of TV real estate will make for a very emmersive experience. But, since I"m upgrading from a 52" TV, I wonder if the 65" will be a sufficient upgrade. Being that this a subwoofer forum I have a feeling I know the inclination of replies.

Sharp LC70SQ15U

I would get a 70" for under 3K and do the dual subs.

My next upgrade first part arrived today smile.gif

I'm going for full Martys with them. I think. First thought was to do a dual opposed sealed build instead but the marty sub threads I think have swayed me; the design would go nicely with my current Empire, but two Martys I think will make the Empire eligible for another use smile.gif I think two ported subs will work better as its a big room open to a dining and kitchen area. I'll figure it out after I do some more reading around here and see what's available in the way of wood next time I go into Eugene where I've got Jerry's, Home Depot and Lowe's plus probably some other choices to check out. I think I want the best plywood I can get my hands on rather than mdf.

PS OP, aren't you also looking into a diy sub or not too seriously at this point?

PPS Looks like these are the eyes of some robot critter in a Pixar film....

I would like to upgrade the Polk sub and get something that matches up a little better with the XS30.  So I think that a sealed DIY build would be interesting, I could buy one part at a time, i.e. enclosure, driver, amp, and end up with similar or better capability than the XS30.  If I go with the UXL18 driver I think I will get more low frequency output and similar mid bass for about the same overall cost, and in the size I need.  Data-Bass has the UXL18 tested in a 4 cu. ft enclosure and it looks impressive to me.

Bass thread or not, I vote option 2 tongue.gif as option one will be doable later ( your Empire is no slouch and will still get the job done for now) but going from a 52 to 75" screen will be very, very nice wink.gif

I like the UXL too, but I like the price on the SI better and the output is plenty (yah, right, famous last words). Think I got two of the last ones until they restock so glad I ordered when I did, too. How much power are you planning on? I'm going to use one of my Crown XLS1500s to power them if I can, both if needed.

A Crowson. I already have 4 FTW21's and 8 12" subs although I may get another pair of 12 or 15" drivers (not sure what yet) to put in the footrest/daybed in my room for late night near field subwoofery that won't disturb the neighbours (along with the Crowson).

I'll upgrade the projector after I remodel the kitchen, but apart from that I have everything I need / want.

This is a fun thread! My current setup is in my signature, so I won't repost it. I just added my SVS a few weeks ago, however I've got some future plans. Next upgrade will be 4 EMP bipole surrounds. Likely going that direction around Black Friday, when EMP has some great sales. After that I'm thinking I may add a second sub. Followed by an upgraded receiver that can handle 4k pass through. After that I'm hoping to move towards projection.

During this time I hope to transition from a living room setup to a dedicated theater.

AVR: Denon 2112
Speakers: EMP Tek e55ti, Center- EMP Tek e56ci, Side Surrounds- EMP Tek e55wi, Rear Surrounds- KLH 911b, Sub- SVS PC12 Plus
Display: BenQ w1070 on a 92in fixed screen
Blu-Ray Player:Samsung BD-EM59C;

Fwiw...I'm the type of person that just likes changing out my AV components every so often...I do want a larger display 70+ or heaven forbid another sub altogether...but for now I am content...in another 6 months...meh...eek.gif

Inuke 3000 DSP if I do a UXL build.  Still not sure yet, ID is so easy and would probably be overkill for my needs...either an XS15 or another XS30.

I took your advice. I purchased a 70" Sharp Q+ SQ for ~$2,300 (saved $400 through a price match). It's one of their new 2014 models and it looked fantastic at Best Buy. Compared to the 75" Samsung I saved over $2,000, leaving me with a nice budget if/when I decide to upgrade to dual subs. The TV will be delivered on Monday. Can't wait.

Ahh man I know. I just can't decide which subs to get. With Jim Wilson's recent perspective on the Rythmik E15, I'm now torn between dual E15s and dual PSA XV-15s. I took months to decide on the TV, I think I need to just pull the trigger on a particular sub path and be done with it.

Doesn't hurt to take the time to make the right decision......took me a couple of months to nail down the right choice.

Geez, been spending a lot this year.....

Last November new (used) AVR. Last December, new Dayton sub. February, new speakers. This month, new amp.

Last upgrade for a long time (a year plus) - finally getting rid of my cheapo Polk sub and waiting for the arrival of my Reaction BP212 sub! biggrin.gif
