Hi,

I thought I would share one negotiating tactic that has worked well for me to date, not only in real life, but especially at home with my wife. My wife is immune to gifts, shoes, and other treats some wives may be tempted by.

BTW, HAB is short for husband and boyfriend, if there are any poor women out there who are married to guys who abhor bass and refuse to allow their wives to build big subs and multiples of them.eek.gif

I have just garnered approval for a third large sealed 15" sub. This has been a long process, but the tactic that I would like to discuss is called:

The Russian Front

This was a tactic used by Hitler in WWII where he would get his soldiers to do dubious deeds by offering them two options. One, the Russian Front (which was an almost guaranteed nightmarihsly long, cold, painful death sentence),

or two, the dubious deed.

Guess which one they usually chose? So, how can we use that in getting WAF approval?

Here is a real life example.

Wife: That new DIY sub sounds awesome, but isn't three enough already (1x DIY in sig, 1x Epik Empire 1x B+W ASW610)? I mean, when are they going to make subs with great output that are small?

ME: Never. The laws of physics prevent it.

Wife : Sigh...

ME: Ok, I am glad you said that about size, because instead of replacing the 10" sub with another 15" DIY (which is what I really wanted and was after) I have decided to add butt kickers to the sofa.

Wife : WHAT? What the heck are butt kickers?

ME: They are basically huge vibrators you bolt to the couch and instead of producing LF, they shake the couch to give the same effect, but I would only turn them on for movies.

Wife: NO WAY (she is 5 months pregnant). You are not bolting a vibrator to our couch...(edited for content)...then I would rather you build another sub.

ME
: Come one! It would be awesome!? The new baby would learn to love bass before he/she is even born!

Wife: Build a damn sub if you have to, but you are not putting that on the couch, period!

ME: Ok. Will do.

Bingo, parts ordered, sub to be built soon. The key is to make the Russian Front alternative plausible, believable and doable.

So, let us help our fellow bros and sisters out, what are the tips and tricks you have used to get your WAF/HAB to approve your woofage expenditures?

I took her to see "Godzilla" on date night yesterday, half way thru the movie she leans over and says "I think we are going to need a new subwoofer...LOL". Needless to say, she loved the movie and cant wait for it to be released on Bluray, and I get to purchase a new sub, any sub (within our means) to make her a happy lady. I unexpectedly tricked her into letting me get a new sub!

Exactly. The garage and the AV system are my domain. There is no discussion as to what happens with either and what I buy.

This rule has been implemented from the very beginning. NO exceptions! biggrin.gif
