What's the BEST HT Subwoofer??

I understand many factors can come into play including room size and budget but what are the BEST subwoofers for under $500? I am in search of 2 subwoofers and have looked at and did research on the following:
Klipsch SW-450
BIC PL-200
SVS SB-2000
Polk Audio PSW125

and more....

What do you guys consider the best subwoofers for movies as far as quality, durability, performance??

IMO, the best sub (overall output, extension, warranty, customer service and value) under $500 is the SVS PB-1000 ($499, shipped, with free return shipping within 45 days).

If you have $500 to spend, start out with a single subwoofer, the best you can get. If you try to get two for that price, you will be giving up way too much low end extension....two cheap subs just are not going to give you anything down to 20 Hz and below.

I would recommend:

SVS PB1000 $499, a bit cheaper in outlet
Outlaw LFM1-EX on sale for $599 shipped...a $750 sub, over budget but great deal and huge upgrade..after all...whats $100?
Rythmik LV12R..also a big upgrade over the PB1000 $599

These subs will dig down and provide movie effects that two lesser subs will not be able to.

First, I think you meant the SB-1000 (at $499 shipped), not the SB-2000 ($699 shipped). Second, have you had a chance to audition any of the above subwoofers? Third, I know you want advice on the four you have chosen, but I'd listen to what eljay and bear have suggested. Another sub worth mentioning is the Reaction Audio BPS 212 (currently out of stock).

SVS PB-1000

For $549 each you can get an SVS Outlet special PB12-NSD

Why are you dead set on dual subwoofers?

I'd rather you spend $1000 on one subwoofer....A single $1000 subwoofer from SVS, PSA, or HSU will make you never think about duals.

Please keep your post to one thread please.

Why not ask what's the best sports car, or what's the best cable TV show? We already gave you advice on the other thread, not understanding why you need 100 different opinions.

Get 2 Outlaw LFM-1 EX for $599 each. You won't do any better for $1,200. Or even better if you can wait until the Outlaw LFM-1 Plus go on sale for $499 each. Assuming they go on sale at that price again. I own both and there's really not much difference between the 2. The EX goes a little lower and plays a little louder.

I'd save my pennies and get an SVS cylinder sub. Best thing I ever did - been using the same 20 - 39PCI model for 7 years now. The thing kicks some a$$ during war / action movies. Guests look over with a big smile when they can feel the bass !

I caved in and just ordered dual PB-2000's from SVS. I hope it was worth the hassle and brain damage I gave you guys lol. But I suppose that's what these forums are for. Now for the next question: Floorstanding fronts or Bookshelf speakers??

Congrats on your new subs!

Re. speakers:
- A good-quality pair of bookshelf speakers is all you need, given that the subs will handle the bottom end.
- If you don't want stands and/or if you plan on (occasionally) using the mains only for two-channel listening, go with towers.

I personally think you'll be happy with those in that size room. Everyone here has their likes and dislikes but home theater isn't a science, it's an art. What may work in one room may not work in the another room of the very same size and dimensions because all rooms are different in how they deal with sound.

Your home theater is probably a little different from each and everybody else who has posted here. That being said, those PB-2000's should do you proud. If not, put them back in the box and ship them back.

I know that I'm late to the party, but:

IMO The one that will hit 20Hz flat (Qtc .707) in a 1 cubic foot sealed box at 130dBc, at 8-12' all day long - No?

Well the next best thing in my opinion would be the Martin Logan Dynamo 1000 for a $1000.00 but one is likely to do the job. If you must use two then I'd go with two Polk DSWPRO 550wi's, which come in under $1000.00 for the pair. These two products have similar features...

Let me start by giving props to SVS for their customer service. I felt like royalty with this company. They answered all my questions and packaged these puppies like they were shipping to themselves, also helped me with all the settings on the subs as well as the receiver. I hooked em up in my spare bedroom to test out (theater is in construction). All I can say is WOW!!! I felt the floor shaking from my kitchen. These are well built subs with a great appearance to your audience. I prefer the grill not being attached since I am not a fan of the curve, but that's just my preference. I feel bad for my wife, I wasn't home when they arrived so she had a good workout getting them inside. Mwuahahaha (evil laugh)

I started with a few songs for my tests which surprisingly sounded fantastic, but not as good as a couple blu rays I tested. I played Pirates of the Caribbean, Transformers, and Lego Movie for my lil man and I must say it literally felt like it did when we were in the theater's if not better. The bass was crisp and filled the room. It's like they wanted everyone to know they were now in charge of the theater. The bass blended with with the surrounds absolutely perfectly, like it was love at first sound. I couldn't have asked for a better, pleasant sound that my ears experienced. The bass wasn't overwhelming, but just right.

Before these, I had the Klipsch 12" subs which were great, but didn't have that theatrical "punch" I was looking for. These SVS's not only knocked my socks off, but I also noticed new holes in them. LOL But seriously I strongly recommend these subs for anybody who is in the market. These are worth every penny.
