another how to connect sub thread

Hi all Expert,

my current setup has 1 rotel RA980BX Intergrated amp connect to 2 monitor speakers (users 520?), I have a svs sub sitting in my garage which I would like to connect to this setup.
please note: this sub doesn't have line in, it will only take one sub cable (thost coax type connection, so I think it needs a sub preout which my current power amp doesn't have)

could anyone please let me know what is the simplest way to connect this setup? and what other additional unit do I need to purchase?

Cheers
George

You need a pre-out somewhere otherwise when you switch your amp on it'll be at 100% Once you do get a pre-amp, you can then use L/R preout into your sub.

Can't remember but I believe using Y cable a certain way is bad for your amp.

Hi All,

here is the manual for that intergrated amp, but I think it's one of those that you can either use it as a pre amp or a power amp. so does that mean I will need another processing unit for that? or an AV that will support sub pre-amp?

sorry, I'm abit confused about all these connection. please help.

That has stereo pre-outs, so just use those into your sub. Read up on Y cables, like I said not sure if using two outputs into one is ok, or one output into two is.

I did that, my pre-amp has stereo pre-outs, my sub has two but I wanted to save using two long RCA cable

Thanks guys for the reply, but I'm still a little confused. I guess picture is better than a thousand word.

1. so do you think it's ok to connect the direct speaker output using a Y cable to the sub? ( I thought the sub only take pre-out source, not line out?)

2. or do you think I could just split the pre-out section of the amp using a Y cable (one go back to it self and the other one go to the sub)????? or do you think this is crazy and i'm likely to blow up my house?

3. any other safer option I have???

1. here is the back of my integrated amp.

here is the back of the SVS sub

^^ If you call or email SVS with this info, they will tell you exactly how to wire it up and in detail.

Pre out left & right into a special Y cable that won't damage your sub, or your amp (two outputs into one)

Correct. You can probably also get away with connecting one of the left preamp outputs to the sub.

yeah but you'll get Left bass only.

I've got a Y cable, it says subwoofer Y cable

One end stereo male RCA. On the other end, single female RCA. Not sure if it has a resistor in it, I might need to use that if I decide to have anti-mode 8033 Cinema

You need a Y jack to split the pre-amp into two to feed the power amp section of the Rotel. Now that you have another set of LEFT and RIGHT outputs, you need a Stereo to Mono converter to be able to plug this to the subwoofer.http://www.juno.co.uk/products/monac...ter/432335-01/
