what would you all recommend me to get for my car? subwoofer and amp for under $600 t

Hi all this is my first post. I know this question has been asked many times but I wwant to know the CURRENT best set up I can get.

In reality I don't want to spend more than $500 total but Will go to $600 if necessary. I'm not looking to be in the world class side of things, I just want a really nice hard hitting system. Personally I prefer low to mid bass subwoofers. Doesn't everybody? .

I have only had one system in my life and it consisted of two 12" memphis subs. Whatever the lower end ones are called? They were 250 watts rms a piece and I had a 500 watt rockford Fosgate mono amplifier.

I have a 1984 Nissan 300z and it's a hatchback so it carried the sound very well. What's your guys's opinions on what to get? I was looking at either dual 12" subs or a single 15" sub possibly. I don't want a 10" sub however.

Please let me know what your opinions are on this so $600 MAX for the sub and amp together. I have a head unit and wiring. Also I will make my own box.

Thanks all in advance have a great day everyone

Go to www.polkdirect.com

Get the PA600.1 amp and (2) MM 1240 subs = 485.00

That leaves you enough money for a enclosure and wiring kit.

I have a pair of MM840's with a PA400.1 in my Yukon and they will pump out a clean 124-126db. I went with 8's so I could hide them in the stock locations without taking up any cargo space.

there MM drivers are pretty solid.

http://stores.ebay.com/Polk-Audio-Direct

http://www.polkaudio.com/products/mm1240

The MM1240 - 425watts rms, 92db efficiency.

The Memphis 124d2- 250 watts rms, 86db efficiency.

Another option which is probably better then both is the Dayton Ultimax.

http://www.parts-express.com/dayton-...-coil--295-512

I would of went with these but they do not make a 8".

Nice! Okay, I'm going to check those out. That's awesome that it isn't even $500 for everything. I rolled my car 3 times and it landed in a river awhile back and my amp and subs got demolished to bits and pieces. Lucky I made it though !

Nice deal, but this concerns me:

Sold as is, no warranty.

A post I found on another site. I'm not sure if it's correct. One of the members here can check the math:

Well lets see. lets say both the 2 12" subs and the 1 15" sub have a flat piston. and that the diameter of usable surface area is truely 12" diameter and 15" diameter.

A=Pi R^2
A=3.14*6^2
A=3.14*36
A=~113 sqin.

2 12's=226 sqin.

A=3.14*7.5^2
A=3.14*56.25
A=~176.5

in order to gain 1dB with the same ammount of excursion the surface area must be increased by 33% (in a sealed and IB aplication. ported is another story)

226-176.5=49.5

49.5/226=x/100

x= ~22%

the difference is very slim to none as far as your ears are concerned. and any phase change between the 2 12's will cause cancelation.
but this is with all other things being the same. basically look at over all displacement of the woofers at full excursion and wether or not they can reach full excursion with you given power input. i would go with a single 15 but others would say 2 12's for cosmetic or power handleing reasons.

That's an amazing deal! I just put that on my watch list lol. It sounds almost too good to be true but who knows. I sent them a message asking if it works for sure. If so, I'm probably going to go with that. I could always get another 12 later I suppose

DUHHH... never mind. I just realized that sub is a 15

Nice man, thanks for the information! I think* I will get 2 12 ' s or just maybe one for now ( if that ebay sub posted above turns out for the better ). I was really happy with my memphis 12'S I had in the past and they were only 250 watts. I mean, of course they could have been better, but they were waaaaay better than anything stock. Lol. I have never heard a 15 in my life but with the information you provided , it doesn't seem like there will be much of a difference if any. I have read on previous forums that 15's provide a little deeper bass since they are bigger. Is that right ? I mean, it would make sense since they have more surface area .

DUHHHH... that sub is a 15. I thought it was a 12

Sorry for all the questions guys but you are all so helpful and I can't thank you all enough for all of your time and effort in helping me get a good system going, so thanks .

What do you all think about this amp? http://kicker.shptron.com/p/cx6001?pp=12

Kicker cx600 mono class d amplifier.

With my memphis subs, I had a rockford 250 watt mono amp that I started with and it was pretty good. But obviously something went wrong and it was fried and was not fixable.

I then got a 250 watt mono kicker amp and used it and it sounded waaaay better. Much more clear sound and was waaaay louder as well. Even though it was the same wattage.

So do you guys think this would go well with the LAB 15 listed above? I mean, It sounds like a perfect match and I have had good experience in the past with only my 250 watt kicker amp. And this one is 600 watts rms and 1200 peak so it matches with the subwoofer
