Sub killer movie/scenes

This idea may have proposed already but I was wondering if a thread for subwoofer killer movie scenes would be a good idea.

It would be diffrent then the master list of bass movies because it would be for specific dangerous parts/scenes such as the (Ya you guessed it) beginning of EOT.

movies included in the list might only have one or two single scenes while the rest of the movie may not have much bass at all. The point of the thread would strictly be to warn everyone of theese specific parts.

Off the top of my head another one would be interstellar with long sustained LFE that might not be bottoming driver nessecarrily but frying coils due to lack of time to let them cool down.

Anyway it's just a thought. If it's a dumb idea it won't hurt my feelings lol

Plus I'm not sure if anyone else already had thought of this

Underworld Awakening has several killer LFE scenes. That movie is just brutal. The scene with the big ass Lycan and the waterfall just after that.

I do want to point out that not all bass intensive scenes are sub killers. IMO, they should be those mixed hotter and go lower than normal.

Therefore, the first 40 seconds of EOT qualifies. If there were scenes in Terminator Genysis or Mad Max Fury Road that go low enough, then they would qualify as well.

You got it all backwards. Those are not sub killer scenes but sub test scenes. And if your sub fails the test because it got killed that means its time for bigger and better sub.

Chucky thanks for bringing that up. That's exactly what I'm talking about. Mixed very hot, extremely low bass 15hzish and under and sustained duration of time causing high heat in coils.

For the record I completely agree that nothing in mad max or terminator would be included in this one even though they are great bass flicks but Imo they don't have the extension and duration to be considered dangerous.

In the movies listed above, you can for the most part gauge the level of bass throughout the movies without having any surprise crazy bass scenes, like edge of tomarrow for example.. There is no way one would have ever expected that crazy sub 15hz powerful bass right at the beginning. Those are kimds of scenes people need to be warned about

Most commercial subs have limiters or filters in place so they don't even play loud low scenes and have no idea what is being missed!

Maybe the use of The Force scenes by Kylo Ren in SW:TFA....caused issues (with some other factors) for this guy at least.

This guy had issues with a song with his sub (plus some other factors).

I like the thought that it's a test that your sub may not pass more than its a sub killer per se, pointing towards more subwoofage needed (or adjustment of some other factors ).

@lovinthehd
That scence: the use of The Force scenes by Kylo Ren, is probably my go to scene in that movie. It made things in my house vibrate/shake that I had not heard before with my 3 subs.

I'd have to agree with the guys who say there is a difference between bass intensive versus sub killer scenes. The only sub killer scene I've ever encountered was the beginning of EOT. Since I had read from users how rough it was I had already turned things down.

Just re-watched The Haunting (1999). I knew it has a bass-fest but had forgotten how great the overall sound design is as well.

I had a sub-woofer that got blown during the plane crash scene in the beginning of "The Grey". I am not sure if it was the low frequency or it just couldn't handle the pressure of Liam Neeson's presence.

Incidentally, is it possible to repair a passive sub that has gotten damaged like that or should it just go in the trash?

Speaking of horror films don't forget about poltergeist. I'd like to see some graphs in that. It's got the power and duration to be dangerous bit I don't know about the extension

Basically all the mentioned movies/scenes are movies listed as 4.5-5 star in the master list of bass movies thread, it's all depends on whether the users are properly setting their subwoofers & cautious in playing those movies with 5 star bass to avoid damage the subs

I knew it was coming and was disappointed somewhat. Especially that the rest of the movie had you waiting for more and didn't come (well unless you hang thru the end credits)!

Yes I still do not understand what the reasoning for that was, not the best place to put heavy LFE especially when there isn't anything else like that in the movie as you stated

Any great sub should have a protection circuit if it is well designed.
If it cannot withheld the first 40s of EoT scene then it is a failure.
So to me, that scene indeed sets a standard for testing subs.
